Posted on 20 July 2010 by bluetooth

ASUS ENGTX460 TOP Graphics Card Review
Bluetooth 20 Jul 2010

ASUS ENGTX460 graphics cards enter service as the newest addition to NVIDIA’s GeForce 400 Series. ASUS is proud to deliver technology that goes further than base reference requirements with exclusives such as DirectCU thermal design, Voltage Tweak overvolting and endurance features GPU Guard, EMI Shield and Fuse Protection.

The graphics card based on the Fermi architecture uses the GF104 GPU and is clocked at 700MHz for GPU CLK. The Shader clock is at 1400MHz and memory at 3680MHz.

On top of cool overclocking capabilities, ASUS ENGTX460 graphics cards are optimized for native performance in Windows 7, delivering mind-blowing graphics to showcase DirectX11 done right, plus full 3D Vision Surround, PhysX and CUDA support.
Cooling Better with Copper — DirectCU

Exclusively on the ASUS-designed ENGTX460 DirectCU cards, users make the most of DirectCU copper cooling. This technique places hefty copper heatpipes, custom flattened and brought into direct contact with the GPU core for improved heat transference. This adds to the already installed heatsink and fan assembly to provide 20 percent* better cooling than reference, and means ASUS ENGTX460 DirectCU cards can deliver more performance and have a higher tolerance for overclocking. They also outlast the basic reference design thanks to exclusive added feature GPU Guard, which combines with the excellent cooling of ASUS ENGTX460 cards to double printed circuit board reinforcement against cracking, delivering spectacular reliability and longevity.

Driving Performance to the Max – Voltage Tweak

Thanks to their better cooling, ENGTX460 cards enable extreme overclocking. This offers opportunities for enthusiasts and anyone intent on more hardcore applications to tap their full, powerful potential. ASUS ENGTX460 cards arrive bundled with overclocking and over volting utility Voltage Tweak, allowing adjustment of voltages to the GPU, video memory and board circuitry. This can boost the core and memory clocks significantly for up to 50 percent* faster overall performance compared to reference.
Pushing Boundaries Further with TOP selected GPUs

ASUS ENGTX460 DirectCU TOP/2DI/1GD5 and ENGTX460 DirectCU TOP/2DI/768MD5 graphics cards carry over the celebrated ASUS TOP approach to graphics cards with select GPUs overclocked for triumphant gaming and benchmarking. Specially singled out from the rest, TOP cards have unbeatable overclocking potential for unparalleled performance.
Built for Superlative Gaming Thrills

Dedicated gamers need look no further than the extreme prowess of the new ASUS ENGTX460’s graphics engine. These cards open up new horizons of excitement with native DirectX11 executed flawlessly in 2560 x 1600 and beyond. Finally, true high definition gaming comes to life in vivid detail, with the added advantage of 3D Vision Surround three dimensional immersion.

The all-new ASUS ENGTX460 DirectCU TOP/2DI/1GD5, ENGTX460 DirectCU/2DI/1GD5, ENGTX460 DirectCU TOP/2DI/768MD5 and ENGTX460/2DI/768MD5 deliver a full spectrum of features, better performance and true Windows 7 optimization. They are the latest in an exciting line of 400 series graphics cards, extending their reach to new audiences.

ASUS O! play online tv and radio services has compatibility issues with some ISPs

Posted on 17 July 2010 by bluetooth

The well acclaimed ASUS O! play HD device which allows you to watch world’s TV channels and listen to radio stations across the globe is hit with a giltch. We discovered that while we tried to access the channels list with the box hooked onto Singapore’s M1 Fixed Line broadband. The channels list just wouldn’t appear.

The same box was tested on another telco and it seems to work. The problem has been reported in forums but there is no immediate fix. M1 responded to our query and they do not block any ports. ASUS on the other hand is working on a beta firmware to try out next week.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Apple approves Mozilla’s Firefox Home iPhone app

Posted on 17 July 2010 by bluetooth

Mozilla today announced that its Firefox Home iPhone application has been accepted to the App Store, and is available for downloading.

The program is not a full-fledged version of Firefox, but instead is a spin-off of the bookmark and tab synchronization technology it currently offers as an add-on to the desktop browser.

Mozilla submitted Firefox Home to the App Store on June 30.

The wait was longer than for most proposed apps, according to recent comments by Apple CEO Steve Jobs. In remarks last month at the company’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference, Jobs claimed that 95% of the submissions it receives are approved, most of them in less than a week.

Firefox Home gives users access to their browser bookmarks and history, as well as to the open tabs from their most recent Firefox sessions. The iPhone application also includes technology from Firefox’s “Awesome Bar” — Mozilla’s name for the revamped address bar in Firefox 3.0 and later — that lets users search for previously-visited pages using keywords or characters in either the URL or the page title.

PC performance devotees have come to know and trust the Republic of Gamers GENE series, a lineup of microATX boards. The new Rampage III GENE takes after the successful Rampage II GENE, bringing the same insistence on hardcore performance to the space and energy saving microATX form. It’s a perfect option for case modders, LAN party attendees and PC gamers looking for a compact build.

Unique ROG Advantages

Rampage III GENE, or R3G, carries over the great features that have made Rampage III Extreme a best seller. It has the Intel X58 chipset, supporting six core Intel i7-980X processors, as well as updated USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s for the fastest data transmission available to consumers.

But it’s the Republic of Gamers (ROG) tradition that sets this board apart from other microATX contenders. It shares in the same spirit of no holds barred performance, driven by ample overclocking. And naturally the trademark ROG design shines through here. For PC tweaking aficionados and new entrants alike, Rampage III GENE delivers numerous avenues to max their PC’s capabilities. ROG Connect brings remote overclocking via USB cable from an external compatible device on a pure hardware level, so benchmarking can occur in a more native environment and results are truer to form.

ProbeIt furnishes accurate diagnostics and voltage readings in real time from different parts of the board, so tuners can keep a close eye on the effects overclocking efforts have on hardware. This is part of the ROG commitment to the joys of PC modding and gaming, pursuits the design team holds dear and never neglects to address with every new product.

Loaded with Rich Features for Peerless Action

With an emphasis on hardcore gaming, R3G packs superior features to make experiences more immersive and impactful. Supreme FX X-Fi 2 sound supports EAX 5.0, bringing surround audio of previously unheard excellence to gamers everywhere while creating a 3D sonic environment where each auditory nuance comes across fully. R3G also arrives with quality materials like gold-plated phone jacks and solid state capacitors to enhance overall sound effect quality.

Likewise, the new board boosts connectivity to eliminate online barriers in this era of cloud services and multiplayer-focused gaming. True Intel Gigabit LAN offers fully accelerated connections whenever possible to guarantee higher performance, and drastically reduced CPU utilization. GameFirst is another internet-related feature, giving users a powerful tool for prioritizing connections so that downloading and other tasks can occur in the background without restricting online gaming performance.

CPU Level Up helps proceedings with intelligent processor overclocking that’s totally automated and takes place when system loads demand higher clock speeds. Users get smoother computing with no intervention needed.

Compact but Versatile

When creating the new Rampage III GENE, the ROG team stayed true to the GENE squad promise of gaming motherboards that deliver many things to a wide range of PC enthusiasts. Those interested in overclocking can get better performance with ROG Connect, while case modders will appreciate the tremendous power packed onto the small size. And of course, all gamers, and especially those attending LAN parties, are bound to enjoy the spectacular audio and online abilities of the R3G. Its attractive balance of great features and smart space utilization is slated to become a hit, as were all previous GENE boards.

P7P55/USB3 Motherboard is the First to Offer Front Panel USB 3.0 Support

ASUS today introduces the P7P55/USB3 motherboard—a motherboard with front panel USB 3.0 support designed to give users greater accessibility and convenience.

Leading Motherboards for the USB 3.0 Era

ASUS has pushed for the introduction of USB 3.0 across its product range, having been the first company to introduce a USB 3.0 motherboard with the P7P55D-E Series.

The company has once again set a standard with the P7P55/USB3—an affordable mainstream motherboard that delivers convenient, easily-accessible USB 3.0 performance. The P7P55/USB3 fits into any standard chassis, making it compatible with most consumers’ hardware.

A Stable and Convenient USB3.0 MB Experience

The P7P55/USB3 is the first motherboard to come with two USB 3.0 ports situated on the front and the rear I/O to answer users’ need for increased USB 3.0 accessibility. The P7P55/USB3 features an additional NEC chip to support the two front panel USB 3.0 headers. This ensures that there is no reduction in data transfer speed for each individual port.
