Posted on 04 August 2010 by bluetooth

HONG KONG, CHINA, July 27 2010: Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, will make it even easier for Hong Kong consumers to enjoy high-speed Internet surfing anytime, anywhere with the Huawei- branded E583C, its next-generation mobile Wi-Fi device. Huawei has been providing innovative telecom infrastructure equipment and terminal devices such as smartphones and USB mobile broadband modems to major Hong Kong operators for many years. Huawei?s first-generation mobile Wi-Fi device, the E5, set the trend in Asia for mobile Wi-Fi hot spots, and had achieved unprecedented successes around the world, including the UK, Hong Kong, and Japan. Based on the solid foundation of E5, Huawei has made further improvements in E583C?s performance and stability. With an E583C in their pockets or bags, users will be able to enjoy immediate access to mobile broadband network anytime, anywhere, without the encumbrance of cable connections. The E583C converts 3.5G HSPA mobile signal into an umbrella of powerful Wi-Fi coverage, automatically creating safe group Internet access and individual Wi-Fi hot points for up to five Wi- Fi-enabled digital devices. The E583C can also provide simultaneous internet access to a sixth device when it is connected to a laptop computer via a USB cable. Its design is fashionable and handy (with net weight of 90 grams), and comes with a 1-inch color OLED display which can clearly show information such as operator-network details, signal strength, Wi-Fi connection status, and battery level. The E583C enables easy wireless data transmission or online gaming on a wide range of Wi-Fi-enabled digital devices, including iPads, iPod Touchs, netbooks, laptop computers, portable multimedia centers, game consoles, personal digital assistants (PDAs), handsets and digital cameras. Like all Huawei mobile broadband products, the E583C is a plug-and-play device, eliminating the hassle of installing any drivers to their laptops. Windows, Mac or Linux laptop users can enjoy high speed data transmission speeds of up to 5.76Mbps (uplink) and 7.2Mbps (downlink) through the networks of major Hong Kong 3.5G HSPA mobile broadband Internet service providers. This allows users to instantaneously upload or download music and video files. The E583C also has a built-in microSD memory card slot (maximum 32GB) that can serve as a USB memory stick. Business executives, particularly when working away from the office, as well as gadget lovers can now experience the excitement of on-the-go wireless internet. HUAWEI E173u USB Mobile Broadband Modem Huawei’s USB mobile broadband modems have always been highly regarded in the marketplace. According to ABI Research1, Huawei mobile broadband terminal products ranked number one in terms of global market share in 2009., and as of May 2010, Huawei has shipped more than one billion units of related products. About the size of a small key chain, the E173u USB mobile broadband modem is handy and convenient to carry around. Similar to the E583C, the E173u is a plug-and-play device which allows Windows, Mac and Linux users to enjoy immediate access to high-speed HSPA networks. The USB modem also has a built-in microSD memory card slot (maximum 32GB) which can serve as a memory stick. “Our unmatched R&D capabilities has enabled us to continually bring innovative, top quality mobile devices to Hong Kong,” said Tiger Lu, Chief Representative, Hong Kong Representative Office of Huawei. “We are confident that Synergy Technologies (Asia) Limited, through its strong distribution network and solid market experience, will allow more consumers to be able to enjoy and learn about the unprecedented user experience with Huawei?s products.” 1 ABI Research report: Cellular and Mobile Broadband PC Modem Market Data, April 2010 Francis Fong, General Manager of Synergy Technologies (Asia) Limited , said: “Wireless Internet connectivity has become a part of everyday life, and the trend is to simultaneously get online with more than one device, wherever a user may be. Video Review : Hands on the HTC Wildfire Android 2.1 handphone

Posted on 08 July 2010 by bluetooth

“Today’s social networks provide an essential forum for friendship with more than 400 million users* – many of whom are young adults – actively sharing their lives with their friends through Facebook,” said Jack Tong, Vice President, HTC Asia Pacific. “HTC Wildfire makes the HTC Sense experience available to young mobile users for the first time. It brings all your communications into one place, whether it’s through Facebook, Twitter, text messages, images or email, ensuring that you are never far away from the conversation and always close to your friends.”

HTC Wildfire helps you stay connected with those who are most important to you through HTC Sense, a user experience focused on putting people at the centre by making phones work in a more simple and natural way. You won’t miss out on the fun as HTC’s Friend Stream application seamlessly gathers and displays content from social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr into one organised stream of updates. HTC Wildfire enables you to stay up to date with your friends’ posts, comments, alerts and photos, wherever you are.

In addition, each contact viewed in HTC Wildfire’s address book includes a thread of recent communications with that person, including when you last spoke, recent text messages and emails, and social network updates. When your friend calls, HTC Caller ID displays their Facebook profile photo and latest social network update, as well as a reminder if their birthday is fast approaching.

Thanks to a new app sharing widget, HTC Wildfire enables you to recommend an application by email, text message or over social networks. Your friends will receive a link allowing them to find the application on the Android Market with a single click and download it to their phone.

Jack Tong continued, “We understand that people need a better way to navigate their way through the tens of thousands of applications that are currently available on the Android Market. In fact, our own independent research found that consumers are not only hungry for the latest and most popular applications that their friends are using, they want an easier way to find and download them. For the first time ever, you can recommend the newest and coolest apps to a friend or group of friends with HTC Wildfire. With so many applications to choose from, there’s a world of content to discover and pass along to your friends.”

HTC’s latest advanced smartphone is great for viewing and sharing photos on Flickr and for surfing the internet thanks to its 3.2-inch capacitive touch screen. A five-megapixel camera with auto focus and LED flash allows you to capture special moments, while a 3.5mm audio jack and micro SD card slot mean you are never without your favourite songs.

Pricing & Availability
The new HTC Wildfire will be available from 10 July 2010 at all authorized resellers in three colours, Phantom Black, Flamenco Red and Pure White at a suggested retail price of $498+.

Hands on the Apple iPad with it’s virtual keyboard

Posted on 26 June 2010 by bluetooth

I was at an event lately and tried out the Apple iPad. Somewhat a a big version of the iPhone 3GS, it seems to be the in thing as I see many journalists from overseas carrying it and typing away “LIVE” when the press conference was going on.

My first experience with the iPad, a parallel import from USA (which is not on sale here yet) was a good one to begin with. Cut away the multi-zoom, ebooks and games, this device seems to be the ideal news reporting tool during offsite.

I did a test with it, typing on the virtual keyboard on the device. The error correction is pretty marvellous and it almost got the full sentence correct without the need of a real keyboard.

The iPad I tested on has 3G/WiFi. Unfortunately 3G was non existant as the owner hasn’t got the microSIM card readly. WiFi was also all locked up in the hotel. Unless i have the WPA, i won’t be able to do any transmission through e-mails etc.

The next thing i would think of is tethering as I have my iPhone 3GS phone with 12GB of data. We tried to pari up the device using bluetooth. I am not sure why but it seems that it can’t pair up and tethering just wouldn’t work.

The only choice, retype everything on iPhone and update it via gmail. Looks like we ought to get the 3G microSIM card ready in future to get real time updates posted in time.
