ASUS Crosshair IV Extreme Review – Intro
Bluetooth 13 Feb 2011

Gamer’s board are usually high end boards because of the requirements. High bandwidth is necessary as a difference of 1 fps would be lethal in gaming. Of course, that not only involves the network, it also involves the graphics capability and support of multiple cards.

In the past, we see that AMD boards supports CrossFire X or SLI. The limitation is that you have to buy a pair, tri or quad to work. This seems to be limiting as you might have to give up your old card in favour of the higher performance. With ASUS Crosshair IV Extreme with Lucid Hydra technology, you can now run SLI, CrossFireX and most importantly mix and match AMD and NVIDIA cards and they do no need to be of the same model to speed up your graphical perforamnce. That definitely helps you to save some costs during upgrading process. It has 5 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (dual @ x16, triple @x16, quad@x16 x16 x8 x8) and 1 x PCI 2.2 slot.

So what does the board support ? The ASUS Crosshair IV Extreme supports the AMD Phenom™ II/Athlon™ II/ Sempron™ 100 Series Processors (AM3 CPU). On top of all these, it has RC Bluetooth.  Just simply push the button from the Back I/O on the RC Bluetooth card, overclockers can real-time monitor the desktop PC system status & tweak its parameters – such as voltages and frequency on the fly. When users want to use ordinary bluetooth functions, just simply push the button once again & enjoy all the wireless convenience brought from RC Bluetooth.

Alternatively, Plug and Overclock – Tweak it the hardcore way! Monitor the status of your desktop PC and tweak its parameters in real-time via a notebook—just like a race car engineer—with ROG Connect. ROG Connect links your main system to a notebook through a USB cable, allowing you to view real-time POST code and hardware status readouts on your notebook, as well as make on-the-fly parameter adjustments at a purely hardware level.

ON board is the iROG, The iROG is a special IC which enables several ROG highlitghted functions that gives users full disposal of the motherboard at any stage! This design allows advanced user control and management to be processed purely at a hardware level. iROG greatly increases fun during overclocking for PC enthusiasts and it offers system maintainence and management with more control and efficiency

【Taipei-Taiwan】After having swept through the global market with the dominating N460GTX Hawk, world-renowned graphics card and mainboard manufacturer MSI announces the next-generation Hawk series, the R6870 Hawk graphics card. Equipped with the advanced Twin Frozr III thermal design, the all new R6870 Hawk is the world’s first graphics card to use propeller blade technology. When compared to traditional fans, the air flow is increased by 20%, allowing the GPU temperature to be up to 21 degrees lower.  Furthermore, it uses the 8+2 phase PWM design to provide the GPU with 2 times the power supply, along with triple overvoltage functions that allow further evolution of R6870 Hawk’s overclocking capability. The R6870 Hawk has the most perfect performance blend of cooling, power components, stability, and high performance found on a graphics card today.

MSI exclusive propeller blade technology: Air flow increased by 20%

The R6870 Hawk is equipped with the advanced version of Twin Frozr III cooling design with the MSI-exclusive propeller blade technology. When compared with traditional fan blade design, it not only increases the air flow by 20%, but the grooved surface on the fan blade further extends the range of air flow, removing more heat generated by the graphics card’s materials and parts. Additionally, dual 8cm PWM fans, SuperPipe technology and a nickel-plated copper base allow the heat to be removed quickly and effectively. When compared to the reference design, the GPU temperature is decreased by up to 21 degrees, completely validating the excellent cooling effects of the next-generation Twin Frozr III thermal design.

Considering the diversity of graphic card users, MSI has developed the exclusive P/S Switch function for users to adjust fan speed between the Performance Mode and Silent Mode. The former emphasizes an enhanced cooling power that can significantly reduce GPU temperature to keep the graphic card at the optimal working condition, while the latter stresses on quiet operations for users to keep noise minimal while playing games or watching a movie. As both modes deliver excellent cooling performance, even the pickiest power users can always keep the environment under control according to their needs.

PWM enhancement and triple overvoltage support Over-clocking potential outbreak

In order to provide users with the optimal display performance, the R6870 Hawk uses the 8+2 phase PWM design. Compared to the 4+1 design for the reference design, it provides twice the power support, increasing overclocking stability. Together with MSI’s exclusive Afterburner overclocking software, the R6870 Hawk supports GPU/Memory/VDDCI triple voltage adjustment, increasing the overclocking potential!

Besides the unique power and voltage design, through V-Check Points users can easily use a multi-meter and monitor the GPU/Memory/VDDCI voltage status. Nvidia Geforce GTX 580 benchmarks and details leaked

Posted on 07 November 2010 by bluetooth

The upcoming Geforce GTX 580 Graphics card from Nvidia has been detailed. Lots of benchmarks and Specs sheets have been leaked of the card which is to be built on the GF-110 Core which is a refined version of the GF-100 Core on which GTX 480/470/465 were built. First of all the Inno 3D based card was showed on the net which featured the reference design shown below along with the PCB design. The card will be powered by a single Six pin and One 8 Pin connector and will consume 375W under full load.

The card will feature a 1.5GB (1536MB) GDDR5 Memory along a 384-Bit Wide Memory Interface running at 4008Mhz effectively. The clocks of the card are set at 772/1002/1544 Mhz for Core/Memory/Shader Respectively. The card boasts 512 Cuda Cores to provide extreme gaming performance. One really cool thing about the card which can be viewed in the GPU Caps Viewer Below is that the cards temps at idle are 40C which are quite impressive for a beastly card like itself. This means that the heating issues have been solved in the new chip.

You can also notice that this card is much quieter as compared to the GTX 480 as shown in the Acoustics bar below:

You can also check out the Benchmarks below which show that this card even outperforms 2 x HD 5870 is crossfire meaning that it will easily outperform the HD 5970 which is based on two of the HD 5870 cores. Another Benchmark is also posted below in which it is compared to a HD 6870/ HD5870/ GTx 480 and it tops all of them.

Below posted benchmarks of H.A.W.X 2, Uniengine v2.1 and Lost Planet 2 are based on Direct X11 and it shows that the new card yeilds better results in Tesselation titles.

ASRock X58 Extreme6 Motherboard Review @ OCWORKBENCH

Posted on 17 October 2010 by bluetooth

ASRock X58 Extreme6 Mainboard Review
Bluetooth 17 Oct 2010

Looking for the most affordable featured pack board. This board is no ordinary X58 chipset mainboard. This board is the first board based on Intel X58 chipset and it support up to 6 USB 3.0 ports on board. ASRock uses 3 NEC USB 3.0 chipsets to control the 4 rear 2 front USB 3.0 portsTo make it Not only that, it also has 6 SATA6Gbps ports on board. That makes it support up to 12 SATA ports (6 SATAII and 6 SATA III – 6Gbps). . In order to supply ample bandwidth, ASRock uses the PLX chip on board.

So how does ASRock achieve that? Basically, we went a bit further to study the block diagram and discovered that ASRock has made one of the better designs. In earlier designs from other manufacturers, the graphics PCIe lanes are hard wired or run at a lower speed. In ASRock’s design, the 3 graphics port lanes are configured as 16x + 8x + 8x. The remaining 4x is split into 2x + 2x, one for the Marvell SATA6Gbps and the other 2 lanes is connected to the PLX PEX8608 chip. The PLX PEX8606 transforms the PCIe x2 to support 3 NEC USB 3.0 (for 6 USB 3.0 ports), 2 Marvell SATA6Gbps chips (for 4 ports of SATA 6Gbps) and 2 PCIe x1 lanes.

Other than this implementation to support the fastest peripherals, ASRock X58 Extreme6 comes with ASRock DuraCap (2.5 x longer life time), 100% Japan-made high-quality Conductive Polymer Capacitors. It supports the 6 core processor and supports Triple Channel DDR3 2000(OC). With 3 full length PCIe slots it supports supports ATI™ Quad CrossFireX™,3-Way CrossFireX™ and CrossFireX™, NVIDIA® Quad SLI™,3-Way SLI™ and SLI™. 7.1 CH HD Audio with Content Protection (Realtek ALC892 Audio Codec), THX TruStudio Pro™ and Premium Blu-ray audio support

Other features include 2 x Front USB 3.0 ports, 4 x Rear USB 3.0 ports, 6 x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s connectors, 2 x IEEE 1394ports, Dr. Debug, Smart Switch Design: Power/Reset/Clear CMOS Switch with LED
Supports ASRock Instant Boot, Instant Flash, OC Tuner, IES, OC DNA, Good Night LED, Multi-Speed Fan Control, AIWI, APP Charger.

Free Software : CyberLink DVD Suite – OEM and Trial
Free Bundle: 1 x Front USB 3.0 Panel, 1 x ASRock SLI_Bridge_2S Card, 1 x ASRock 3-Way SLI-2S2S Bridge Card
