Local distributor CDL Trading and Gigabyte Technology of Taiwan held a gathering of power users at a Thai restaurant in town. Rockson Chiang was here in town to give us a view of the technologies available on the Gigabyte mainboards.

The event started at 7.20pm with crowds streaming in from all parts of Singapore. To my surprise, some of the attendees are probably Secondary school kids. Of course, the older ones would be close to 50 yrs old. It simply shows that Gigabyte boards are well accepted by all age groups.

Much of the presentation was on the current technologies like USB 3.0 super charge of iPhone, iPad and stability design using ferrite chokes etc. The most interesting demonstration was the demonstration of Cloud OC where he uses a iPad (or any phone with wifi). The wifi device is connected to the AP. With the device (ipad or phone), you can access the IP address of your machine and overclock the system remotely over the WiFi network.

ASRock always surprises us. I am not sure if it is because they are just demonstrating their technology capability or do they have large volumes to clear.

Anyway, remember the old AMD 480X chipset, the discrete chipset supporting the AM2 processors. ASRock is able to support AM3 processors and has the UCC feature on it.

Last week, we posted about the new ASRock P55 board supporting front USB 3.0. Today, we have news that ASRock will release 2 AMD equivalent board. This new board is the ASRock 890FX Deluxe4. It has 2 x Front USB 3.0 ports, 2 x Rear USB 3.0 ports, 8 x SATA3 connectors, 2 x IEEE1394 ports for exapansion. The rest of the specifications are quite similar to the 890FX Deluxe3. The other board is ASRock 890GX Deluxe4 which uses the integrated graphics chipset. It supports 5 SATA3 ports instead. The P7P55/USB3 is the first motherboard to come with two USB 3.0 ports situated on the front and the rear I/O to answer users’ need for increased USB 3.0 accessibility. The P7P55/USB3 features an additional NEC chip to support the two front panel USB 3.0 headers. This ensures that there is no reduction in data transfer speed for each individual port.

ASRock will release yet another P55 mainboard. This time round the focus is on more USB 3 ports. This mainboard has most of the feature sets of previous P55 mainboards. In addition, it now has 2 front and 2 back USB 3.0 ports. The 4 SATA3 6Gbps ports are supported by Marvell SE9128 . There are two SE9128, each supporting 2 SATA3 6.0Gbps ports. The USB 3.0 ports are supported by NEC MPD720200 chip. 2 ports at the rear and one USB header will connect two USB 3.0 ports for the front panel.
