In Japan, more retail outlets are now starting to sell smartphones featuring low cost fees. This is because of a new regulation, which phone carriers cannot lock their customers SIM lock their phones so that they can only use the phone on a particular network.

With the removal of SIM lock, end users can use their phones with cheaper tariffs from former competitor network. This will definitely dent the Telco’s profits and bring about a new change to the Telco industry in Japan.
