Benchmarks gives you an indication of how fast a smartphone perform in executing tasks. In our test of the Pixel 3 XL, we used PCMARK and ANTUTU to test the phone.
When we first heard about the Kirin 980, we anticipate that it will perform much better than the Snapdragon 845. We found some early numbers of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and compared with the results we obtained with our Pixel 3 XL. Below are the screen shots.
In PCMARK, Work 2.0 performance, Pixel 3 XL scores 9106 while the Huawei Mate 20 Pro scores 7645.

Based on PCMark results, the Pixel 3 XL based on Snapdragon 845 is far ahead by almost 20 %.

3DMark

Huawei Mate 20 Pro scores : 3DMark: 3,507 (Sling Shot Extreme, Open GL 3.1), 4,203 (Sling Shot Extreme, Vulcan)
As for Pixel 3 XL, 3DMark: 4,111 (Sling Shot Extreme, Open GL 3.1), 2,898 (Sling Shot Extreme, Vulcan).
Pixel 3 XL performs better in Open GL 3.1 but in Vulcan it lost to Huawei Mate 20 Pro. In fact, on the benchmark itself, there is a warning saying that Vulkan performance can be lower than expected on some devices because of unoptimized drivers.
The 3 benchmarks gave us an idea how well the devices performed. As Pixel 3 XL is based on the Snapdragon 845, other smartphones based on the same chipset should perform on par.
Pixel 3 XL outperformed in 3DMark and PCMark while losing out in ANTUTU to the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.
At the end of the day, performance aside, the user experience is more important.
So which phone do you prefer ? Pixel 3 XL or the Huawei Mate 20 Pro ?
