Commuters using Singapore’s underground MRT network can now enjoy faster speeds on the Circle Line and Thomson-East Coast Line, thanks to expanded 5G coverage.

The Thomson-East Coast Line was the first to support LTE Band 40 when it launched and later upgraded to include the 5G n1 band for 5G NSA (Non-Standalone) connectivity.

The Circle Line’s 5G rollout began a few months ago. Initially, only the Vivocity station had 5G NSA access, but now the entire stretch of the Circle Line is covered by 5G.

Currently, four underground MRT lines / stations still rely on LTE Band 8: the East-West Line, North-South Line, North East Line, and Downtown Line. However, it’s only a matter of time before 5G is introduced to these lines as well.
