My M.2 SSD that has been serving me well for 5 years is almost full. I used it to hold most of my videos and well it also worked as my boot drive.
For faster loading, it is not advisable to move 4K videos to the normal 4 TB HDD as it takes time to create proxy files in video editing tools. There is an apparent lag. Thus one of the better option is to invest in another M.2 SSD.
I look around and was shocked by the prices. Some of the well known brands like Samsung is insanely expensive. I search Amazon.com and found this Acer Predator GM7 and found the price to be quite reasonable.
With PCIe 4.0 Gen4 and NVMe 2.0, you’re getting read speeds up to 7,400 MB/s and write speeds up to 6,500 MB/s. That should work well for my video files or even for my lite gaming.
While I am sure cache will help, the GM7 feel so responsive in day-to-day use is the combination of HMB (Host Memory Buffer) technology and SLC Cache working together under the hood. No more waiting time during my loading of video files into my video editing software.
While my current Crucial still service it’s purpose, it does get hot. The GM7’s built-in Thermal Throttling and Power Management kick in automatically to keep temperatures in check. I hope I don’t need new heatsink for it.
For me I do not need to transfer my data over, but if you need to there is Biwin Intelligence, a management app made specifically for Predator storage. It lets you run performance tests, migrate your data, clone your drive, and keep everything running smoothly.
The Acer Predator GM7 1TB SSD is worth the money for it’s lower price tag. There are 2 TB and 4 TB options available too at a higher price. Depending on your needs, you might want to wait a while for the pricing to drop or just grab it before prices sky rocket again.
