Front Panel USB 3.0 puts to the test

Using the SUNBEAMTECH USB 3.0 enclosure, we are able to test external USB 3.0 performance against standard USB 2.0. To test USB 3.0 performance, we connect the blue cable (USB 3) to the front panel while the other end connects to the back of the SUNBEAMTECH docking station. On the Docking station is our Kingston 64GB SSDNow V series SSD (SATAII)

For USB 2.0 tests, we replaced the USB 3.0 cable with a standard USB 2.0 cable.

Below are the results running SiSoft Sandra 2010 Disk benchmark on the docking station. The read write speeds are recorded using USB 2 and USB 3.  It can be easily seen that USB 2.0 hampers the USB bandwidth to 29 MB/s and 33MB/s for Disk Write and Read.

When the cable is replaced with USB 3.0, the performance leap to 133MB/s and 186.83MB/s.  This speed is quite close to the actual performance of the Drive if connected via eSATAII.

In ATTo disk benchmark, we get very similar results. The disk benchmark gives a read/write of 34.9MB/s and 28.1MB/s using USB 2.0. When USB 3.0 is used, the performance is improved to 103.46MB/s for write and 187.28MB/s for read.
