Alright, we’ve covered a lot of details about the DJI NEO. Now it’s time to take it for a spin! As a beginner in drone flying, I’m fairly comfortable with basic movements—up, down, left, and right—using either Normal or Cinematic mode. I anticipate needing more space to practice. So, here’s the unboxing followed by the takeoff video.

My First Experience

It was a bright, sunny weekend, and I found a clear spot with no obstacles for my drone flight. Power up the drone and remote control (connected to smartphone thru USB). Press the button to take off. Taking off was easy, but as the drone climbed, it became hard to keep it in view, particularly with the sun glaring in my eyes. Despite this, the breathtaking view over the trees was well worth it. I got the drone up to around 20 meters within the fly zone (keep in mind the maximum limit is 60 meters, and stay clear of No Fly Zones to avoid fines). Always remember to check OneMap!

Since this was my first time flying in an open area, I focused on maneuvering the drone while keeping it in sight at all times. I didn’t take video footage of the lift off as I forgot to press the record button only to record it’s descend. Luckily I had the whole screen video on Android phone.

Conclusion

This compact drone offers some intriguing features, but I received the PDF manual too late to explore all six modes; I only managed to try the Spotlight mode and fly it from my palm.

The DJI manual spans over 70 pages but lacks detailed instructions on how to use each mode. I’ll be looking forward to their official video guide for a better understanding.

The 4K video footage is sharp and clear, though there is a slight jitter when panning.

The DJI Neo is an excellent option for vloggers, thanks to its compact design, user-friendly operation, and smart features. Its small size allows it to fit comfortably in your hand, making it easy to launch and land from your palm—ideal for capturing content on the move. With its intelligent tracking feature, you’ll stay perfectly framed, and the 4K stabilized video ensures your footage is always high-quality. Beyond vlogging, the Neo is versatile enough to provide stunning aerial views for travel videos, real estate highlights, or any creative project needing a unique perspective.

At S$249, it’s a great value for beginners. However, the numerous No Fly Zones are a drawback, so you might find it more practical to use the drone overseas.
