M1 launches Maxx SIM Only plan, $12 for 50 GB, 150 mins IDD, 500 mins calls, 50 SMS for 30 days

Intro

In a surprise move by M1 to counter MVNO Zero1 and TPG prepaid plan, M1 has launched the new Maxx plan. Similar in nature, it offers lots of data, call minutes and IDD minutes. The trouble is that you will have to sign up at participating retailers and top up with cash every 30 days.

The Maxx plan comes with a basic plan which gives you 200 MB data, 10 mins outgoing talktime, 50 local SMS, unlimited free incoming calls. At the moment, the $5 is waived.

At only $5*/month, it comes with:

• 200MB local data
• 10 mins local outgoing talktime
• 50 local outgoing SMS
• Unlimited Free local incoming calls

*$5 subscription is waived unless there is a 90 consecutive days of non-usage of key services (Data, outgoing calls and/or outgoing SMS). You will have to make payment at M1 Shop Paragon (between 12pm – 6pm daily) within 30 days once charged. Failure to pay will result in termination.

According to it’s FAQ, there is a hotline to call and it’s surprising the prepaid hotline 1800 843 8288. We presume that this is an initiative to recapture the former prepaid service in the form of a 30 days renewable postpaid service.

In it’s FAQ, it is also mentioned that they will offer 5G on it’s MAXX plan soon. Will it be a 5G NSA or 5G SA ? I suspect it should be the former to maximise the 4G network. The MAXX plan should support VoLTE and maybe VoWIFI ?

So, will you subscribe to this Maxx plan as you would need to drop by the authorised dealer to pay $12 in cash. There is also a $5 fee for 90 consecutive day of inactivity.
