M1 and MDA to help low-income households access digital TV programming
● Thousands of eligible families to benefit from national initiative
● DVB-T2 set-top box will deliver enhanced video quality
SINGAPORE, 4 July 2014 – M1 Limited (M1) was appointed today by the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) to help Singapore’s low-income households enjoy access to digital free-to-air TV programming.
As part of MDA’s Digital TV Assistance Scheme, M1 will supply DVB-T2 (Digital Video Broadcasting -– Second Generation Terrestrial) set-top boxes and indoor antennas to eligible households. Through M1’s DVB-T2 set-top box, households will be able to access MediaCorp’s digital free-to-air TV broadcasts on their TV. This will enable them to enjoy enhanced video quality through superior image and sound quality, as well as access MediaCorp’s electronic programme guide.
MediaCorp is progressively rolling out its digital TV network over the next 2 to 3 years.
“M1 is pleased to play a part in helping Singapore’s low income households continue to enjoy free-to-air programming,” said Mr Willis Sim, Director, Product Development and Enterprise Services, M1.
“We also look forward to further contributing to the Digital Switchover by extending the benefits of DVB-T2 technology to everyone,” added Mr Sim.
