Digitimes reported that Micro-Star International (MSI) stands a chance to overtake Samsung as the largest supplier of curved gaming monitors in 2019.
Currently, MSI is in second placing in the top 10 vendors of gaming monitors.
MSI pointed out that the curved design only accounted for around 35% of overall gaming monitor shipments in 2017, but the percentage was nearly 60% in 2018 and may reach 66.7% in 2019. The same cannot be said about flat screen monitor which sees declining sales.
Shipments of gaming monitors (with a refresh rate of 100Hz or above) went up from over 1.3 million units in 2016 to around 2.5-2.6 million units in 2017 and rose further to 6-6.2 million units in 2018. The market watchers expect the volumes to pick up to 8.2 million units in 2019 with panel maker AU Optronics (AUO) to benefit the most.
