Oppo Reno 4 Pro is probably one of the slimmest smartphones at 7.7mm and weighs just 161 grams. It comes with a super modern 6.5″ 3D curved screen. It also comes whth 90 Hz High Refresh Rate for smoother scrolling.

The Oppo Reno 4 Pro is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor. It comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage space for your apps.

Unboxing of the Oppo Reno4 pro
[nextpage title=”GeekBench and 3DMark test”]
Oppo Reno4 Pro is powered by Android 10 with ColouOS v7.2
supports VoLTE out of the box for Singapore’s four telcos : Singtel, M1, TPG and Starhub. MVNOs – Circles.Life, MyRepublic running on M1 infrastructure will get VoLTE support out of the box.

GeekBench Score
GeekBench scored 568 for single core and 1716 for multi core. This 720G which is clocked at 2.3 GHz is comparable to the Pixel 4a which uses 730G that is clocked at 2.2 GHz. The performance is very close to the Snapdragon 845 in multicore tests.

3Dmark results
Both Pixel 4a and Oppo Reno 4 Pro uses Adreno 618. The results shows that the Reno4 Pro performs slightly faster than the Pixel 4a. The faster clock speed of the 720G might have helped.

[nextpage title=”Speedtest”]
In terms of speedtest, the Reno 4 Pro supports CA. With our Singtel SIM card, we were able to get a high spee of 205 Mbps at Bugis MRT station.
This is a very good speed and will probably match those NSA 5G implementation out there.

We took the Day and Night scenes with the Oppo Reno4 Pro. Day scenes is not an issue at all with the picture quality. Wide angle, Digital zoom and macro shots turn out better than expected. (see video below).
Night shots were taken at Clarke Quay together with Pixel 4a. That is where we took both phones and shot it using Night mode. Oppo Reno4 Pro took a longer exposure and pictures tends to be brighter. With wide angle, the picture pales in colours but generally acceptable. Pixel 4a images is dimmer. Below are the comparison images.

[nextpage title=”Sample 4K video taken with Oppo Reno4 Pro”]
The Reno4 Pro is capable of shooting 4K at 30 fps.
We noticed the audio is pretty soft compared to other smartphones.
The colours are also duller than what we see in still pictures.
The OIS does a ok job while we do the recording while walking.
AI Colour Potrait
Take interest video with the background grey out. That is what AI colour potrait is all about. It is an interesting option for making interesting videos.

Conclusion
The Oppo Reno4 Pro didn’t disappoint with it’s mid range 720G offering. Paired with the 90Hz curved screen, there is practically no lag in scrolling.
Oppo Reno4 Pro has got it right with a slimmer body and the volume up/dn keys are located on the left edge while the power button is on the right edge. This makes it exceptionally easy to take screen shots.
Features wise, there is the on screen finger print recognition which can be paired with face recognition for unlocking the phone. There is also App cloner for cloning facebook, whatsapp, messenger and telegram for multiple account login. There is also a preinstall app “SoLoop” which helps you create short video clips automatically by selecting a template.
I like the 65W SuperVOOC 4.0. It took us around 40 minutes to fully charge up the battery from 0% to 100%. In fact, it was so fast that within 5 minutes,, it is already 10% charged. At 10 mins, it wwas 35% charged.
Price S$899
The camera took nice pictures except for the wide angle shots seem faded. The digital zoom took better pictures than my expectation. Night shots seem to take a longer exposure than the Pixel 4a which resulted in brighter photos. Audio in Video recording in too soft.
For the retail price of S$899, it is rather expensive compared tot he Pixel 4a at S$499. That is S$400 difference in pricing for the extras like wide angle, dual SIM slot, VoLTE support, SuperVOOC.
Overall, Oppo Reno4 Pro has got the chemistry right with the design both in hardware and software. I am looking forward to a 5G version of it.
