Oppo Reno 6 Pro is the latest addition to it’s mid high range slate. This seems to be a general trend among smartphone players to diversify it’s portoflio to include both Qualcomm and Mediatek chips.
Powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 1200, the Reno 6 Pro supports Dual SIM 5G SA/NSA while the Snapdragons are still 4G+5G for either slot. This is probably chosen as a lower cost 5G chipset as it’s performance is on par with some of the higher end snapdragon already available in the market.

The Oppo Reno6 Pro 5G is lightweight at 177g and is one fo the slimmest 5G smartphone you can find in the market at only 7.6 mm. Dimension 160 x 73.1 x 7.6mm.
It comes with a 6.5″ AMOLED screen with a refresh rate of 60/90 Hz. It is visible under the bright sun.
Comes with a big memory size of 12 GB RAM + 256 ROM, there is enough space for all your apps and photos and videos.
The main focus of this phone is it’s camera features and it’s Bokeh Flare Portrait Video which takes impressive video with a bokeh effect.

Performance
PCmark
In the past, most consumers prefer Snapdragon processors over Mediatek. This is going to change as the Dimensity series has pretty good performance considering the price.
In our tests of PCMark Work 3.0 performance benchmark, it scored 10458 which is the speed you will get on a POCO F3 GT or Galaxy Note 20 (Enynox 990). It is also on par with Mi 10T pro 5G based on Snapdragon 865.

Geekbench
In Geekebench, the results of both single and multicore are not far off from what we attained in PCMark. the performance is on par with a Galaxy Note 20 or a Samsung S21 5G

Video with Stabilisation turned on
Without a gimbal, most smartphones will take shaky videos. On the Oppo Reno6 Pro, this is compensated partly through HD stabilisation. In the video, we can see that video panning is decent. Too much movement will still result in a shaky movie. A gimbal is recommended to stabilise it further.
Bokeh Flare in video
WIth Oppo’s Bokeh Flare, you can turn your film stunning background blur effects that you see in movies. Here is a short demo, you can clearly see that the background is blur out.
[nextpage title=”Speedtest – 4G and 5G”]
Oppo Reno6 Pro 5G is the first non Apple and Samsung phone to be officially listed to support Singtel 5G SA and NSA network. Unfortunately, we do not have a Singtel 5G SA SIM to try it out. We present you the results we tried on our own Grid MVNO 4G and Giga 5G NSA speedtest results below.
Giga 5G works on this device. As we know 5G NSA isn’t really the real 5G but an ‘enhanced’ 4G multi carrier aggregation, thus don’t expect speeds to go beyond 300 Mbps.

The speed with 4G is pretty good with 2 CA intraband.

[nextpage title=”Conclusion”]
Oppo Reno6 Pro 5G is the first phone we review that is powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 1200. Processor wise, this mid ranger is quite responsive and is on par with the Mi 10T Pro that is my daily driver. The 90 Hz screen is also fluid. Most importantly, the temperature seems way cooler than the equivalent Snapdragon. It is usually just over 40 deg C even under heavy game load.
I like the design of this phone, the colour scheme and it’s lightweight appeal to me. The probably ugly portion is probably the large sensors at the rear.
The 64 MP takes impressive photos even in dark environments with images enhanced through software. The shots in day time are excellent even during 10x digital zoom. Dim light shots are fine but videos suffer due to the lack of OIS.
The smartphone is one of the first smartphones other than A and S brand to be certiified to work on Singtel 5G SA network. It is not known if it will function in 5G SA on M1/Starhub and TPG yet.
In Conclusion, I think Oppo Reno6 Pro has put up a good 5G smartphone that is confimred to work with Singtel 5G SA. If you are going for 5G SA, this is the better bet than the more expensive brands.
