The Google Nexus 7 is the first to be based on the Android 4.1 Jellybean OS. Those familiar with Android wouldn’t find the interface quite familiar.

Android 4.1 has some improvements over Android 4.0. They include a faster and more responsive interface with the “Project Butter” to make JellyBean UI “buttery smooth”.

There is also Offline Voice. Until now, when you pressed the voice icon and spoke a command or query, Android had to digitize your voice, upload it to the cloud, process the waveform, turn it into text, and send the text back down to your phone. Now the phones are powerful enough that this can be built into the device, with no extra network I/O needed. As you can imagine this results in *much* faster voice recognition than previous versions.

Google Now is something new that combines all your information about your work habits, appointments, location. It also provides reviews of restaurants, sports scores and deliver them automatically to your device. It is somewhat similar to Siri on Apple iPhone or iPad but it is more intelligent.

There are also richers notifications with pictures, action buttons for direct access etc. There is also support for new locales and home screen widgets.

  1. This is the best Android tablet you can buy at any price. When you factor in the low price, it’s probably the best tablet for the money you’ll find as well. If you can live in the cloud, and Google Play has enough of the content you’re looking for, go buy one. And if you have decided to become a proud owner of this device, perhaps you’re in the market for a solid and beautiful protection case as well.

  2. I am a user of google nexus 7 and I can say that I’m not so happy finding out several problems on its functionality. Sometimes cannot charge if the battery is totally uncharged. Microphone sometimes doesn’t work. After installing 4.2 android many times reboot without reason. These are some of the issues that I think is very important to asus or google to resolve.
