Sharp is set to launch the AQUOS wish5, a feature-rich entry level 5G smartphone powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset. It supports a physical nano SIM and eSIM. This is something that is usually available on higher end handsets. Compared to wish4, the performance has been improved by approximately 20%, while GPU performance sees a 13% boost, delivering a smoother and more responsive user experience. The device also supports virtual memory expansion up to 4 GB, ensuring multitasking remains fast and fluid.
It features a 6.6-inch HD+ LCD display with a 120 Hz high-speed refresh rate for smooth visuals, and is built to last with IPX9 waterproof performance, protecting it against high-pressure water streams. The phone also supports microSD cards up to 2 TB and comes with four years of security updates, offering long-term reliability.
The AQUOS wish5 is available in two memory configurations:
- 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage
- 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage
On the camera front, it offers a 50 MP main sensor paired with a 2 MP secondary lens, plus an 8 MP front camera for selfies and video calls.
The device adopts a new design supervised by “Miyake Design”, founded by renowned designer Kazushige Miyake. It retains the signature “free curve” camera design, a form that is neither circular nor square, continuing the unique aesthetic introduced with the previous model (AQUOS wish4). The casing features a rounded, ergonomic shape that fits comfortably in the hand, combining visual softness with structural durability. It’s available in five color variations, with approximately 60% of the casing made from recycled plastic.
A standout innovation is its security alert function—a smartphone first. By simply shaking the device, a loud alarm is triggered, even when inside a bag or backpack. The phone automatically calls pre-registered contacts and sends an SMS with your location, enabling quick SOS communication in emergencies.
The AQUOS wish5 also features an AI-powered phone assistant, which analyzes call content to detect and block suspicious or fraudulent calls. It can also transcribe voicemails into text, allowing users to review missed messages with ease.
Prices start from S$289.
