Subscribers to SIMBA’s fibre broadband are now enjoying speeds of up to 10 Gbps in their homes. Similar high-speed offerings have been seen from other providers like Singtel and MyRepublic.

Today, we came across a screenshot taken during the installation process by the contractor. The results are promising: a direct ONT connection to the notebook via an adapter shows speeds of 8.173 Gbps down and 7.686 Gbps up. The speed results indicate that this XGS-PON implementation provides synchronous speeds, unlike the older 2.5 Gbps plan, which is asynchronous.

The adaptor should be the OWC Thunderbolt 3 10G Ethernet Adapter. It comes with RJ45 port and support 10Gb/s, 5Gb/s, 2.5Gb/s, 1Gb/s and 100Mb/s Base-T, Compatible with Thunderbolt 3 or Thunderbolt 4 ports https://amzn.to/3yHhb3F (afflink)

Additionally, IPv6 addresses are issued, allowing direct connections from the outside world using IPv6. This feature helps avoid the issues associated with IPv4 CGNAT. Unfortunately, IPv6 is not supported in the 2.5 Gbps plan.
