U Mobile is leveling up its 5G game with the launch of ULTRA5G, the new brand name for its 5G network. The telco announced the new name at its headquarters in Berjaya Times Square (BTS), stating that the name reflects its commitment to delivering ultra-fast speeds, ultra-reliable connectivity, and ultra-wide coverage.

To celebrate the launch, U Mobile turned its headquarters into a showcase for its new network. Thanks to the company’s upgraded in-building coverage, users inside BTS will now see an “ULTRA5G” identifier on their phones.

To prove the network’s power, U Mobile showed off several impressive demonstrations. The highlight was a 4K livestream of the roller coaster at Berjaya Times Square Theme Park, a ride that reaches speeds of 70 km/h. The livestream successfully maintained a smooth and stable connection throughout the entire three-minute ride, demonstrating the deep and consistent coverage of ULTRA5G even in a challenging indoor environment. Other demonstrations included an immersive mixed-reality experience and a 5G network slicing showcase, highlighting the network’s reliable performance and ability to handle multiple services at once.

According to Woon Ooi Yuen, U Mobile’s Chief Technology Officer, the ULTRA5G network is designed to meet the evolving needs of Malaysia’s digital future. For consumers, this means more reliable streaming, immersive gaming, and high-quality video calls, even in crowded areas. For businesses, ULTRA5G unlocks advanced use cases like XR, robotics, smart cities, and IR 4.0 automation. Yuen also mentioned that U Mobile is ahead of schedule with its network deployment and is focused on expanding its indoor coverage to ensure a widespread 5G experience across Malaysia.
