Kuala Lumpur, 12 February 2026 – U Mobile, Malaysia’s newest 5G network provider, with the support of EDOTCO, the nation’s digital infrastructure partner, has achieved a major milestone in its 5G expansion journey by deploying seamless and comprehensive 5G in-building coverage (IBC) across key transportation hubs nationwide.
As an initial phase, indoor 5G coverage is now live at six major transport hubs:
- KL International Airport Terminal 1 (KLIA Terminal 1)
- KL International Airport Terminal 2 (KLIA Terminal 2)
- Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA)
- Langkawi International Airport (LIA)
- Penang Sentral
- Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS)
More locations are scheduled to follow.
Unlike traditional hotspot-based connectivity, U Mobile’s advanced 5G in-building coverage solution ensures uninterrupted ULTRA5G access throughout every floor and facility within these terminals. This marks the first time Malaysian transport hubs are fully enabled with seamless indoor 5G coverage of this scale.
With this deployment, tourists, airport personnel, transport staff and visitors who are U Mobile customers can now enjoy high-speed, reliable connectivity from arrival halls to departure gates, reinforcing Malaysia’s digital readiness.
Introducing Malaysia’s First ULTRA Tourist Plan for Visit Malaysia 2026
In conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026, U Mobile also introduced its first-of-its-kind ULTRA Tourist Plan. The plan offers international tourists 100GB of free ultra-fast data valid for 24 hours.
Visitors can simply scan a QR code upon arrival and register for an eSIM to activate the complimentary data. The initiative aims to showcase Malaysia’s robust 5G capabilities while enhancing the digital experience of foreign visitors from the moment they arrive.

Launch Ceremony at KLIA Terminal 1
The deployment and tourist plan were officially launched at KLIA Terminal 1 by:
- YB Dato’ Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications
- YB Teo Nie Ching, Deputy Minister of Communications
- Yang Berusaha Chua Choon Hwa, Deputy Secretary General (Tourism), Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture
During the ceremony, U Mobile demonstrated Malaysia’s first live 5G RedCap camera streaming over its ULTRA5G network. The demonstration highlighted how 5G enables surveillance systems to operate wirelessly with lower power and bandwidth consumption, reducing deployment costs while offering greater flexibility compared to traditional wired or WiFi-based systems.
Expansion Plans Ahead
Looking forward, U Mobile plans to extend its indoor 5G coverage to additional transport hubs in 2026, including:
- Kuching International Airport
- Penang International Airport
- Sultan Ismail International Airport
- Sultan Ahmad Shah International Airport
- KL Sentral
- JB Sentral
This expansion forms part of the company’s broader strategy to strengthen 5G infrastructure at critical national locations, accelerating digitalisation and supporting Malaysia’s growing digital economy.
