After days of meddling with the Motorola Milestone, I would say that the experience is a pretty positive one. While we try to draw comparisons to the Apple iPhone, the Motorola Milestone is indeed one step ahead in terms of technology. The most noticeable differences are the removal battery, battery life and the 5 mega pixel camera with Flash. With the longer battery life and removal battery pack, I can stay online without worrying too much about turning off 3G, WiFi, notifications just to save some juice to prolong the usage (that happens on the iPhone).

Both phones though running on different operating system, they have many similarities, they both allow you to download tons of applications. One thing nice about the Android based phones is that you don’t need credit card to sign on to Google Marketplace just to download applications to install.

Although the Milestone comes with a 5 megapixel camera, I personally find that pictures taken using the iPhone at 3 megapixel looks better in terms of sharpness. Of course the plus point is that the Milestone is able to take photos in pitch dark environments thanks to the flash light.

For users that require text entry in Chinese, the iPhone has that all prebuilt into the phone. As for the Milestone, you would have to install the IME from Google or third party tools to get it working.

In fact, the best thing about the Motorola Milestone is it can be customised to your liking. Add more widgets or LIVE wallpapers unlike the iPhone where users are scratching their heads on how to jail break it.

In terms of the touch screen experience, the iPhone no doubt is still the best among all the capacitive screen phones out in the market. The sensitiveness is a bit lacking on the Milestone. Text entry correction on the Milestone has room for improvement too. We tried the slide out keyboard and it seems to slow down our text entry instead. This is largely due to the left aligned keyboard and the cursor pad on the right of the keyboard. In a small device slide out device, the keyboard should be centralised.

Pros

– 5 mega pixel camera with flash
– removal battery pack
– better battery life
– Google marketplace
– Starhub mobile TV

Cons

– left ailgned keyboard
– text auto correction
