Package contents

The package consists of the device itself which is quite heavy. There is a power adaptor but Thunderbolt cable isn’t included.

It has 2 x 3 TB HDD which can be configured to run in RAID 0 (for striping – speed) or RAID 1 (mirroring).  When the drive is set to RAID 1 (mirroring) it provides double-safe data protection by automatically generating a duplicate copy of your data. Set the drive to JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks) to use as two individual drives and select between HFS+J or ExFAT per disk. Ideal for running Windows® OS on a Mac®.

To date, this device only has the WD Drive Utilities for the Mac. So, you can only run it under the Mac. PC version of the software is not available, thus you can’t take advantage of RAID for higher thoughput.

On the last page, we take a look at the benchmark numbers.

The drive bay can be flipped open and drives can be swapped out easily for replacement. Do note that it will only work with WD drives. The two bays are installed with WD Caviar Green drive – 3TB WD30EZRX SATA 64MB cache drive.

  1. Big deal, Apple has already said that desktops are dead, so that means this is dead.

Any true computer user, uses a Desktop PC, and stays away from the proprietary junk made by Apple.
