Photo shots at night

We captured several shots in pitch darkness to compare the Xiaomi 14T Pro with the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL.

The Xiaomi 14T Pro automatically detects night scenes and enables a long exposure of 1 to 2 seconds. Like any handheld device, using a tripod is recommended for such shots. The resulting images are bright and colorful, though they may appear slightly blurry due to minor hand movement. In contrast, the Pixel 9 Pro XL opted for a 6-second long exposure for the same scene, producing a similar image quality.

Xiaomi 14T Pro also seems to bokeh the image a bit more than the Pixel 9 Pro XL.

Under low light conditions, Xiaomi 14T Pro tends to give a more yellowish tint to the photos taken while the Pixel 9 Pro XL colours are somewhat cooler. Colours wise, I think the Pixel 9 Pro XL looks more natural and closer to that I see with my naked eye.

As for zoom, it can do a digital zoom of up to 30X for photo. Here is a shot we took.

Video shot in 4K/30 fps HDR10+

Youtube video shot in HDR10+. Flickering lights is imminent due to the 30 fps. It would be good that future smartphones include a 25 fps and 50 fps option.

HDR video shots are also limited to 6 minutes. This is puzzling as there wasn’t a time limit when we shot it on the Xiaomi 14. The flickering seems to be much lesser on the Xiaomi 14. We have appended the video below too for your viewing.

On the nextpage, we take a look at the benchmark numbers.
