Reuters reports that U.S. ratings agency Moody’s cut its credit rating on bonds of struggling Finnish phone maker Nokia Oyj by two notches on Wednesday and said the outlook on the rating was still negative.

A spokesman for Nokia said the rating cut would have no
material impact on the company’s current financing costs.

Fitch and S&P cut Nokia’s credit ratings last month.

Last week Nokia reported a steep net loss for the June
quarter and surrendered its lead in the global smartphone market
— which it created in 1996 with its first Communicator model —
to rival Apple . [ID:nLDE76K01W]

In recent years Nokia has failed to match the appeal of
Apple and phones using Google software. It is now
pinning its turnaround hopes on a new suite of devices using
Microsoft software, which are due to start reaching
consumers in late-2011.

“Visibility for Nokia’s future operating metrics such as
mobile phones sold or average selling prices is currently very
low due to the transition in its product offering,” Moody’s said
in a statement.

However, it said Nokia has maintained a strong liquidity
position and capital structure, which should support the
transition process by covering possible cash burn.

Tech report reports that AMD released a graphic novel titled “The Legend of FX” last week in a rather strange effort to build some hype for the brand’s revival later this year. The Legend of FX takes some jabs at Intel while touting AMD’s superior graphics and improved performance, but it’s the recently posted cinematic trailer promoting the novel itself that brings a juicy tidbit: hidden at 0:15 is the date “September 19″ which some have taken as a hint for when FX will see the light of day.

WCCFTech claims to have confirmed a September launch date with Taiwanese motherboard manufacturers and says four processors will make the initial FX lineup — the FX-8150, FX-8100, FX-6100 and FX-4100.

The range-topping FX-8150 packs eight cores clocked at 3.6 GHz (or up to 4.2GHz in Turbo mode) and has a TDP of 125W, while the FX-8100 drops frequencies to 2.8-3.7GHz and the power rating to 95W. The six-core FX-6100 and quad-core FX-4100 will also have a TDP of 95W and feature base/Turbo clocks of 3.3/3.9 GHz and 3.6/3.8 GHz, respectively.

The chips are all based on GlobalFoundries’ 32nm process technology, come in an AM3+ package, and have a built-in dual-channel DDR3-1866 memory controller. They also feature 1MB of L2 cache per core, 8MB of shared L3 cache, and unlocked multipliers. A previous leak covered here mentioned four additional FX chips and a possible delay into Q4 of 2011, so until we get an official announcement from AMD we won’t know for sure.

The cuts will see 11 per cent of the Canadian tech giant, which practically invented the smartphone market until Apple came along with its pesky iPhone, collecting their P45s as the company struggles to keep up with the game.

RIM’s first foray into the tablet market with its business-centric PlayBook device seems to have been an unmitigated disaster, with reports suggesting that the company has only managed to ship 50,000 units of the touch-screen gadget.

It looks like things are being further shaken up at the company’s Ontario HQ with COO Don Morrison taking early retirement and Thorsten Heins stepping into his shoes in an expanded role of COO of product and sales.

RIM said in a statement that it would be shedding staff throughout the company in an attempt to “focus on areas that offer the highest growth opportunities,” according to Bloomberg.

RIM’s BlackBerry handsets, which were once the de facto standard for besuited business types because of their bombproof email and messaging services, have since been overtaken by devices running Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android operating systems.

The company announced last month that it had failed to meet even lowered profit forecasts and had reduced shipments of hardware in light of reduced sales.

The company’s stock has dropped 52 per cent already this year and is bound to take another kicking once this news gets out.

As most of you are aware, counterfeit iPhones are popular in Asia. In fact, a lot of iPhone or even Nokia look alike commonly known as Shanzhai products are commonly manufactured in remote parts of China.

News reports have always been uncovering fake phones, food etc. One thing you would have never have expected is that they now even have a copy cat faked Apple Store in Kun Ming. In China, there are only a couple of Apple Stores, they are located in Beijing and Shanghai only.

Our HK editor alerted us about a traveller blog and revealed that there are at least 3 shops in design to the real stores. The decoration looks high pretty decent to say but no one is sure if they are selling the real products.

The blogger also noticed that friendly salesperson are wearing the blue Apple shirt with a name tag with word “STAFF” printed on it.

When he tried to take photos, he was stopped by the staff and security was called in. You can suspect as much why they are so worried of being exposed.

The most surprising fact is that there is not just one but three such Apple Stores in the same area. One of the shops even have the word spelt wrongly as “Apple Stoer”.

See the pictures attached.

AMD Inc., the technology company who supplied the graphics hardware for the Xbox 360, has stated that the next Xbox will be capable of the level of graphical detail seen in James Cameron’s movie Avatar.

Neal Robison, Director of ISV relationships at AMD Inc. said, “The gamers have a lot to excited about. The A.I. and physics capabilities of the next-gen hardware will allow for every pedestrian in a game such as Grand Theft Auto or Saints Row to have a totally individual mentality, meaning when you shoot a gun or run someone over they don’t all just do the same thing. There will be no more mob mentality, where everyone just screams and runs away; every NPC will actually be an individual character.”

AMD Inc. (NYSE:AMD) company shares are currently standing at 6.18.

Sandy Bridge-E Model Numbers, Clock Speeds Surface

Here are details of the first three models of Intel’s “Sandy Bridge-E” Core i7 processors in the LGA2011 package. Some of these details were made public as early as mid-April. It was then analyzed that Intel was driving two distinct lines of LGA2011 client processors: Enthusiast and Performance, and within Performance, there were BClk multiplier-unlocked six-core, and locked quad-core chips. With the new series, Intel will move to the 3000 series of processor model numbering, indicating that the new processors will be part of Intel’s 3rd generation Core processors, even though they’re based on the Sandy Bridge architecture.

Before we move to the model numbers, here’s a quick run up of the brand extenders. “X” denotes Extreme Edition, “K” denotes “Unlocked” (BClk multipler unlocked). Leading the pack will be Core i7-3960X Extreme Edition. This six-core (6 cores, 12 threads with HTT) chip has a nominal clock speed of 3.30 GHz, Turbo Boost speed of up to 3.90 GHz, and features the full 15 MB of L3 cache present on the Sandy Bridge-E silicon. Expect this chip to have a four figure price-tag.

Next up, is the Core i7-3930K, with 6 cores, 12 threads, a nominal clock speed of 3.20 GHz, and Turbo Boost speed of 3.80 GHz; but 12 MB of L3 cache compared to 15 MB on the Extreme Edition chip. This chip features an unlocked BClk multiplier, making overclocking it possible.

The most affordable LGA2011 chip will be Core i7-3820, with 4 cores, 8 threads, nominal clock speed of 3.60 GHz, Turbo speed of 3.90 GHz, and just 10 MB of L3 cache. Unlike the other two, this one has its BClk multiplier locked. All three models feature quad-channel DDR3 memory controllers, but it is likely that the lower-end models could also have lower DRAM multiplier limits. All three chips will have other features in common, including a PCI-Express 3.0 root complex that gives out two x16 links to drive graphics.

“Today’s customers want genuine choice, phones with a different mix of features and technology for different segments of the market,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “And that’s precisely what we’ve done with Optimus Pro and Optimus Net, two completely new devices which enhance LG’s reputation as the company with an Android smartphone suitable for everyone.”

LG OPTIMUS PRO – Simple Social Networking with Both QWERTY and Touch
The first LG Optimus smartphone with a portrait bar QWERTY keyboard, the LG Optimus Pro offers the best of both a physical keyboard and touch display. The 2.8-inch display provides quick navigation while the QWERTY keyboard is ergonomically designed for fast and accurate typing. Dedicated hotkeys for email and scheduler enable instant access for enhanced speed and convenience. Optimus Pro will be available in white, titan, as well as black.

LG OPTIMUS NET – The Next Generation of Social Communication
Featuring LG Social+™, the Optimus Net combines the most popular social networking portals in one convenient widget right on the homescreen. With a single click, users can multitask between updating their status on Facebook and Twitter while reading their friends’ social media feeds on the same screen. The integrated social widget provides one-click photo sharing with multiple social media accounts from the home screen. In addition, the 3.2 HVGA (320 x 480) display delivers clearer, sharper viewing of multimedia content while the LG SmartShare™ function allows easy sharing of content with other DLNA-friendly devices.

Specifications for the Optimus Net will vary market by market. Depending on the carrier, some of the phones in Europe will be Near Field Communication (NFC) capable for mobile payments. The North American version will include a QWERTY keyboard and in Brazil, China, Asia and the CIS region, the Optimus Net will be dual SIM-compatible. The phone will be available in white, as well as black.

Both the Optimus Pro and Optimus Net boast the largest 1500mAh battery in their class and an 800 MHz CPU, ensuring longer, better performance.

The two smartphones will be available starting this summer, rolling out in 30 markets beginning in Europe.
