Apple’s developer site has been hacked, which could result in the delay of iOS 7 beta 4 rolling out

A Turkish hacker group has claimed it carried out the attack to bring Apple’s developer site to its knees on the day iOS 7 beta 4 was due to launch.

According to the Guardian, Turkish security researcher Ibrahim Balic hacked the site in order ‘to demonstrate that Apple’s system was leaking user information.’

Apple’s iOS 7 beta 4 roll out could be at risk after its developer site was hacked.

Apple’s official statement reads:

‘Last Thursday, an intruder attempted to secure personal information of our registered developers from our developer website. Sensitive personal information was encrypted and cannot be accessed, however, we have not been able to rule out the possibility that some developers’ names, mailing addresses, and/or email addresses may have been accessed. In the spirit of transparency, we want to inform you of the issue. We took the site down immediately on Thursday and have been working around the clock since then.

‘In order to prevent a security threat like this from happening again, we’re completely overhauling our developer systems, updating our server software, and rebuilding our entire database. We apologize for the significant inconvenience that our downtime has caused you and we expect to have the developer website up again soon.’

According to Sky News, the website was hacked last Thursday and Apple is now ‘working round the clock’ to increase security and get the site back online.

The iOS 7 beta software can be downloaded from Apple’s developer site, providing you have signed up to have a developer account.

iOS 7 beta 4 was due to be released yesterday, but it has now be delayed as Apple attempts to re-secure its systems.

There’s usually a two-week gap between Apple issuing beta versions of its software. Potential features in the new update include fixing bugs not dealt with in beta 3 such as reduced battery life on the iPhone 4S as a result of installing iOS 7 beta.

At the time of writing, the Apple Developer website seems to be online with some features disabled.
