USB-AC53 puts to the test

First, we use the speedtest.net app to test the speed against 3 other configurations.

The 4 configurations are :

Notebook used : HP Envy 14

ASUS RT-AC66U and USB-AC53 802.11ac adapter (up to 886Mbps)
– ASUS RT-AC66U with notebook’s direct Ethernet connection
– ASUS RT-AC66U with notebook’s internet Broadcom WiFi-N (300Mbps) WiFi connection
– ASUS RT-AC66U with Zyxel 802.11n (300Mbps) USB Stick

The router is set as two networks, the first is the 2.4GHz and the second SSID is the 5GHz band.

In the test, the notebook is connected to the router via the 5GHz band.

In the speedtest test, it is run against SGIX server.

From the results, we can see that the speeds obtained are very closed to a wired connection. In fact, with the ASUS router, even the internal WiFi-N and Zyxel USB Stick comes close to the wired speed but is just a bit slower than the ASUS+ASUS combination.

When we used the same HP notebook’s internal WiFi-n to connect to our WD N900 Central, we only managed 89-90Mbps on the 5 GHz band connection.
