Conclusion

The Gigabyte A75-UD4H is the first board we received for review paired with the A8-3850 processor. Although the A8-3850 is not the fastest APU, there are already news that the newer FX series will bring the performance to another level.

From the benchmarks, we can see that the data crunching portion of the APU still falls a behind. The impressive portion of the APU is the embedded DX11 graphics. It is quite a pleasant surprise for me too. I would say that this processor paired with this board gives you a upper mainstream performance which should satisfy most of the mid range buyers.

Of course, with upcoming processors and higher end graphics cards running in CrossFire X, this platform will definitely last you a long time as updatability is there. Most importantly, you can reuse your old heatsinks from the early days.

Features wise, this board has the standard feature set, name it you have it,1394, GbE,  USB 3.0, SATA 6Gbps, eSATA 6Gbps, Display port, DX11, HDMI, Dual-link DVI at 2560×1600 resolution. In terms of software, there is Easytune, @BIOS, Q-Flash, Xpress BIOS Rescue, Smrt Recovery, Auto Green ON/OFF charge, Cloud OC, 3TB+ unlock, Q-share etc.

Overclocking wise, the BIOS has lot of voltage options for you to tweak. You can also use EasyTune if you prefer to do it within Windows. For our test, we are able to overclock the A8-3850 to 3.45GHz stable with vcore set to 1.45v and vdimm at 1.65v. Below is a screen shot of 3DMark Vantage Performance that score P5000+.

Installation of this board is pretty straightforward as the indicators are printed on PCB. The only regret is the missing clear Cmos, power on/off, reset buttons, the debug led.

A 96 page English manual is accompanied in the package. The manual is very precise and even provided a block diagram of how the different components interact.

Packaging seems to be a bit too simplistic with 2 SATA cables and no USB brackets.

From the performance, I would say that this board and the APU would definitely challenge the Intel platform. In terms of 3D graphics, it is far superior to the Intel counterpart. When it comes to data crunching, the APU lacks that bit of power to counter it. Video transcoding wise, the Intel counterpart still does a better job.

In conclusion, I think this board has it all as the board of choice for AMD users.
