In our test with the Pixel 7 Pro, the new Tensor G2 based on 5nm manufacturing process performance is comparable to the Snapdragon 888. It did outperform the original Tensor though.
The improvement can be seen in the multicore performance, the original Tensor scored around 2656 on the PIxel 6a. The Pixel 7 Pro gets a boost to 3035. a 14% gain.
All the scores are based on early test results. Results might differ with performance tuning in future firmware updates.

The Google Pixel 7 Pro has a few camera hardware changes in comparison to the Google Pixel 6 Pro. It retains the same 50MP Samsung GN1 main sensor, but from there, it’s basically all different. The ultra-wide has been swapped over to a Samsung GM1 (instead of an IMX586), and it’s also 21% wider and can be used for macro photography. As for the telephoto, it’s increased from 4x to 5x, and Super Res Zoom has increased from 20x zoom to 30x zoom.
We compare the Pixel 7 Pro to our daily driver the Mi 10T Pro.
Photos taken with the Pixel 7 Pro is excellent very sharp and clear. Both do not exhibits light flares under low light environments. Photos taken in day light or night is not as bright as the Mi 10T Pro. This could be attributed to the larger apeture size on the Mi 10T Pro 5G.
As for video recording in 4K/60 fps, the Pixel 7 Pro is the better of the two. Videos are stable on both the front and back camera. There are slight lens flare and shadows during video but generally much better than the Mi 10T Pro 5G.

Conclusion
Google Pixel 7 Pro maintains most of the Pixel 6 Pro features and replaced it with a newer Tensor G2 processor.
PIxel are famous for it’s Computational Photography. Night shots are excellent but the smaller apeture may be a setback as it resulted darker shots. The tend to be darker than the Mi 10T Pro that we tested against. With the Pixel 7 Pro, digital zoom can go up to 30X and optical zoom of up to 5X. This is an improvement over the Pixel 6 Pro. The 30X SuperRes Digital zoom is pretty impressive with little noise for day shots.
It has features like magic eraser, long exposure shots, Face Unblur that are interesting features that work very well on the PIxel.
One complain though is the overheating issue. While we are in the tropics, with temperatures around 25 deg C to 35 deg C throughout the year. This happened when I shot videos in 4K/60 fps. Within 2 minutes, a pop up message indicates that recording will detoriate and a few moments later, the recording stopped completely.
I cooled it down and then turned on Airplane mode.. The overheating issue needs to be managed in a future firmware update.
Currently, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will work on 5G SA/NSA network on all 3 major telcos Singtel, M1 and Starhub. With it’s latest carrier settngs version datated 2022-08-11, SIMBA users are still unable to use the VoLTE function to make voice calls. (You might need to use the SIMBA voice app to make and receive calls).
