Google Pixel 3 XL has been launched for some time. Although it is one of the champions in low light photography, the lack of Dual SIM support might turn away some potential users.
Interestingly, Android Q Beta 2 has changed all this with the inclusion of DUAL SIM DUAL Standby mode (DSDS) mode on the handsets. With that enabled, you will be able to use an operator with eSIM and use the Physical SIM slot for another SIM card.
To enable that, you would need to participate in the Android Q beta program. Once you have updated your phone to Android Q beta 2, you are ready to enable this option.
Using the keypad enter *#*#4636#*#* and it will show you the phone info.
One that is done, you will be able to see you have 2 “SIM SLOTS” available on the phone.

[nextpage title=”Ubigi e-SIM on Pixel 3 XL”]As we already have a M1 SIngapore Physical SIM, we would need a e-SIM to test out the DSDS feature. What we did was to acquire a free e-SIM from the global operator Ubigi
Just register an account, there is no need to fill in credit card numbers etc. Once that is done, you will receive an email.

Once you receive it, take out your Pixel 3 XL and add carrier by scanning the QR code.
It will take up to 3 minutes (as mentioned). It took less than 5 seconds and I see the new carrier “Active” and it is on Roaming mode on Singapore’s Starhub Network.
If you wish to use the Ubigi roaming’s data network, you can select Ubigi as default network on your smartphone and visit http://www.ubigi.me and register an account, top up and buy credits for it’s data roaming packages at it’s website.[nextpage title=”Conclusion”]With DSDS enabled on the Pixel 3 XL, which should also work on Pixel 2 and PIxel 3 phones, Google Pixel users can now use a Physical and a e-SIM on it’s smartphone. Do note that it is not both active line, one will be active and the other is on standby.
We hope this feature will be available on the upcoming Android Q final release. Google, please also enable VoLTE for Singapore operators. We miss that voice clarity for VoLTE.
