We have seen some of these boards at Computex 2011. This new boards featuring the Intel X79 chipset will support the upcoming Socket 2011 Sandy Bridge-E processor.
With a quad channel memory architecture, it is supposedly the successor to tri channel Intel X58.
Although the chipset will be launched as scheduled in Oct 2011, the processors are still having performance issues and bugs that needs to be ironed out.
According to various sources, there were indications that the intial launch date of November 2011 might be pushed back to early 2012.
