The Pocket 4 is launching on April 16, and honestly, it isn’t much of a difference from the Pocket 3. So, what is same and what has changed ? Let’s dive in.
The OSMO Pocket 4 features the same 1″ sensor used in the Pocket 3 that promises amazing 4K footage even at night. It now comes with 14 stops of dynamic range. It is still on a 3 axis gimbal which stablised your footage to generate the fantastic B-rolls that you see on our youtube videos.
There is no change to the zoom as it still still a 2x digital zoom which basically crops the video. For those who wants to use it to shoot distant objects, the Pocket 4 didn’t have this. It is rumoured that a Pocket 4 Pro might have one.
Other features include the Intelligent Follow 7.0 an improved version for tracking. It also has a 4 channel audio, supports 10 bit log-M colour HLG recording.
The package includes Wide-Angle Lens attachment, a dedicated magnetic Fill Light and a carrying Case and Wrist Strap
Now, the Creator Combo comes with DJI MIC 3 which is smaller so you can pair it up with the Pocket 4 for crisp clear audio recording. Mini Tripod & Battery Handle
Something that is different in the Pocket 4 is it’s support of recording at 4K/240 fps. I am not sure if you really need that but it will definitely take up all your storage. It would be great for slow motion but how often do you take slow motion.
One of the most shocking thing is that Pocket 4 doesn’t seem to support a microSD slot. The Pocket 4 is reported to come with 107GB of built-in high-speed internal storage (with transfer speeds up to 800MB/s).
Personally, if you already have the Pocket 3, you should just stick with it as there isn’t much of an advancement in video quality unless certain software optimisations are done only for the Pocket 4. The probable noticeable thing is the fill light which may not be that important if you are taking street videos instead of shooting yourself in dark alleys.
I am sure the DJI Pocket 3 pricing will be priced lower after the launch of the new product. So, you might have some bargain hunting if you are serious in purchasing the Pocket 3 or Pocket 4.
