LG introduces INDUSTRY-LEADING SMARTPHONES, LG Optimus BLACK and LG Optimus 2X, IN SINGAPORE

Latest smartphones deliver the ultimate user experience with world’s first capabilities

SINGAPORE, Mar. 3, 2011 – LG Electronics (LG) today unveiled the LG Optimus Black and LG Optimus 2X smartphones, boasting capabilities that are the world’s firsts. Providing users with a dramatically brighter 4-inch NOVA display in one of the world’s slimmest 9.2 mm mobile device, the LG Optimus Black creates a one-of-a-kind user experience while the LG Optimus 2X – the world’s first smartphone with the NVIDIA Tegra 2 mobile processor with a dual-core CPU – provides a faster and smoother multitasking experience with virtually no screen lag.

Mr James Park, Managing Director of LG Electronics Singapore said, “The launch of the LG Optimus Black and LG Optimus 2X as the next-generation smartphones reflect LG’s efforts in providing smartphones that enhance the user experience. With these world-first features and LG’s traditional strength in innovative design, we are aggressively taking the steps to position us to be a leading player in the competitive Singapore smartphone market.”

LG Optimus Black: One of the World’s Slimmest and Brightest Smartphones

Available for the first time in the mobile market, the LG Optimus Black’s NOVA display is designed to be the brightest, clearest and most readable mobile screen with 700 nits[1] of brightness for optimal visibility. The LG Optimus Black provides users with an easier and more natural experience when browsing the web, reading emails, and writing documents with higher levels of brightness and pure white tones that deliver true black and white colors for ideal handset viewing. NOVA technology featured on the LG Optimus Black enables users to maintain visibility whether indoors or outdoors under strong sunlight.

In addition to greater luminosity, the NOVA display on the LG Optimus Black also radically reduces power consumption by 50 percent during general indoor use compared to a conventional LCD. Similarly, AMOLED screens consume twice as much power as NOVA screens to display a full white screen; the most frequently used color scheme for web browsing. Combined with the 1500 mAh battery of the LG Optimus Black, users will have enough power for their daily needs, even at maximum brightness settings.

Users will never be out of style with the LG Optimus Black’s ultra slim 9.2 mm design. Making a strong visual statement, the LG Optimus Black weighs only 109g and offers sleek lines and smooth edges that improve handheld grip. Tapering down to the world’s thinnest smartphone profile of 6.0 mm, LG Optimus Black’s subtle back arch helps to create the illusion of even greater slimness and increase the chic factor.  Unique to the LG Optimus Black, the flush and flawless finish of the front display is achieved by innovatively hiding the Invisible Receiver behind the edges of the phone.

“We are excited to introduce the stylish new LG Optimus Black which will cater to fashion and design-conscious consumers,” said Mr James Park, Managing Director of LG Electronics Singapore. “The LG Optimus Black with the world’s brightest screen and the world’s slimmest design in an attractive and smart package is reflective of LG’s technological advancements in display and design.”

The LG Optimus Black also offers a set of smarter features designed for easy and faster access to important apps and content. Optimus UI 2.0 lets users directly access messages, emails and missed calls from the locked screen with just one single finger tap. The Gesture UI offers more intuitive commands, including lifting, shaking and tapping, for taking calls, entering camera mode, or enjoying music. The LG Optimus Black also introduces the world’s first Wi-Fi Direct™[2] for quick and high-quality data transfer between mobile devices and adopts the world’s first 2MP front-facing camera.

All LG Optimus Black features are available on the Android 2.2 Froyo platform with Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade capability. Utilizing the 2MP front-facing camera, LG Optimus Black allows users to utilize video telephony functions of higher quality upon upgrading to Android’s Gingerbread.

LG Optimus 2X: World’s First and Fastest Dual-Core Smartphone

The LG Optimus 2X is the world’s first smartphone powered by a mobile processor with a dual-core CPU. Along with more powerful multimedia features, the LG Optimus 2X’s high-performance Tegra 2 processor makes for faster, smoother web browsing and applications and lets users multitask with virtually no screen lag.

“LG understands that as Singaporeans live a fast-paced life, they value mobile gadgets that enable them to multitask and do more on the go,” continued Mr James Park. “As the first smartphone which enables hyper-speed and seamless multi-tasking abilities, the LG Optimus 2X is proof of LG’s commitment to high-end smartphones and providing the ultimate user experience for Singaporeans.”

Developed by visual-computing leader NVIDIA, the Tegra 2 processor found in the LG Optimus 2X features a dual-core CPU, each running at a clock speed of 1GHz, along with an eight-core GPU. It also boasts low-power consumption and high-performance for playing video and audio. The result is faster web browsing and smoother gameplay, compared with single-core processors running at the same speed, as well as instantaneous touch response and seamless multitasking between applications.

“The Tegra 2-powered LG Optimus 2X brings mobile computing to a whole new level. We are proud to partner with LG, one of the world’s leading electronics companies, to launch a new super phone providing experiences that have never before been seen,” said Francis Yu, Vice President, Asia Pacific Sales and Marketing, at NVIDIA.

The LG Optimus 2X offers 1080p HD video playback and recording with HDMI mirroring that expands content on external displays to full HD quality. The LG Optimus 2X can connect wirelessly to any DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) compatible digital device such as HD TVs for a console-like gaming experience taking full advantage of the phone’s HDMI mirroring, accelerometer and gyro sensor. The smartphone also includes both rear- and front-facing cameras, microSD memory expandability, Micro-USB port and a 1500mAh battery.

The LG Optimus 2X will be available in Singapore on March 2011 at recommended retail price of S$888.00 at all telecommunications outlets. The LG Optimus Black will be available in April 2011 at a recommended retail price of $768.00
