Singaporeans travelling to or from Johor Bahru will soon be able to clear immigration without using their passports, thanks to a new QR code system being tested by Malaysia.

Starting September 22, Malaysia will launch a trial run of its National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe), allowing passport-less clearance via the MyNIISe app at the two land checkpoints in Johor Bahru — the Causeway and the Second Link. The system will be available to Malaysians and visitors from 63 countries, including Singapore.

The trial period will run until February 28, 2026, and will gradually expand to include five Malaysian airports: Kuala Lumpur International Airport (Terminals 1 and 2), Penang, Kuching, and Kota Kinabalu.

Before heading into Malaysia, you will have to download the MyNIISE app from Apple or Google Store. Install it and fill in the particulars. Generate the QR code to be scanned at the Malaysian checkpoint.
