PC MARK performance

The top 10 best performance phones ranked in PC Mark is all based on Snapdragon 845.

As we can see, it is among the top performer among the various manufacturers. I don’t find any lag launching applications and running them. in comparison, I just feel that my old Snapdragon 625 is aging and probably needs a replacement.

How does mobile speedtest perform ?

As we can see, 4G+ is working and we assume that B3+B7 works and that gives the downlink speed a boost to 180 Mbps. In general, if there is no CA involved, the speed will most likely be in the range of 40 Mbps to 70 Mbps.

Auto mode indoors. The details on the wall and ceiling are preserved and can be clearly seen.

Natural looking colours. WYSIWYG.

Evening shot of footpath with street lamps lit.

Evening shot at Chinese Garden, Singapore. The sunset looks natural and not over exaggerated by other phones AI features.

Salmon Mentai Don

A shot of the cakes on display through the showcase. It is colourful but the contrast seems a bit lacking.

A night shot at a building. The 321 Clementi can be clearly seen but the sky has a bit of noise but that could be due to the lamp lighting.

When every manufacturer is promoting their “AI” capable phone, it is surprising that OnePlus 6 did not include that in it’s camera features except for the bokeh effect. Sometimes, I wonder, do you really need so called AI filters which over saturate the photos with specific filters. Some phones over do it and the photos becomes unnatural.

OnePlus 6 didn’t disappoint with it’s f/1.7 camera. It took very sharp images even in dim light. With manual controls, you can easily take longer exposure shots for fireworks display etc.

The phone doesn’t come with surround sound but it is equipped with selections for the environment and allow you to choose the ear phones which best suit the audio playback. We tested the various settings with our daily use Sony earpiece, the sound quality is clear but lacks in term of bass.

A large phone but with a mere 3300 mAH battery is a strange combination. In fact, a number of snapdragon 845 smartphones have a 3000 mAH battery enclosed. Nevertheless the battery can last me 1.5 days of usage without a recharge. As for charging, the it took around 2 mins for a 1% charge using the Dash charger that comes with the package. Charging slowed down when it reached 90% full. A full charge from 0 % to 100 % took around 80 minutes to complete which is pretty fast. It only took 25 to 30 minutes to charge up to 50%.

In Conclusion, the OnePlus 6 is definitely a contender for the best smartphone camera in 2018. The image quality is superb and is comparable to those taken using the LG G7+ThinQ or the Honor 10. The images taken are not artificially enhanced and looks natural. The price is also cheaper than a number of Snapdragon 845 based phones out there in the market. It is definitely one of the better choices for upgraders who needs an excellent low light camera and a responsive smartphone.
