Conclusion
The ASrock Fatal1ty Z77 Professional-M board is based on the Intel z77 chipset, it inherits all the goods of the chipset and processor. On top of that, the board maker has throw in very interesting features like Xfast RAM, Xfast USB, OMG, C.C.O just to name a few. This are really utilities or tools that you never find it on other manufacturer’s boards and are useful to the users.
As for performance, the board seems to run at a lower gear compared to other boards. We attribute it to the BIOS and ram timings. As we have mentioned before, the XMP profile for DDR3-2400 didn’t work well on this board. Manually adjusting it didn’t change the situation at all. Another bug we discovered is that USB 3 performance (via Intel chispet) is way below that of the USB 3 port supported by ASmedia chipset. Enabling XFast USB didn’t help to improve the USB 3 performance (for the Intel supported port), the score is slightly better than a USB 2.0. You can read the detail tests from this Link
Installation is a breeze for this board. Clear CMOS (at the back), power switch and reset switch are definitely a plus, together with debug led, it makes it easy to install. I somewhat like the BIOS navigation within the BIOS, it shows you what is connected and what ram are being installed (see page 3 for the BIOS run through video).
Overclocking features are there for you to manipulate the system to your like. If you do not like to meddle with the BIOS, the F-Stream tuning software can be used as well. In our overclocking test, we managed to do 4.4GHz (44×100) with iGPU overclock from 1.1GHz to 1.5GHz.
Packaging is quite complete except that ASRock should thrown in USB 3.0 brackets. As for documentation, the quick installation guideof 250 pages can be avoided by having multi language manuals in downloaded form
In conclusion, the board does have it’s pros and cons. I like the features but the performance and bugs need to be fixed with a new BIOS. I give this board our Silver Award.
