The Google Nexus 7 is light and portable. The 7″ LED-backlit IPS screen has a resolution of 1,280 by 800 pixels, or 216 pixels per inch (ppi). Although it falls short of the 264ppi on the iPad Retina display, the clarity is definitely there. It is generally good for reading ebooks or surfing than reading on a tiny 4″ screen on your smartphone.

In terms of technology, the Nexus 7 has NFC which isn’t that popular right now. It also has GPS, bluetooth and a front facing 1.2 mega pixel camera. Unfortunately, it fails as a multimedia device as it doesn’t include a back camera and there isn’t any HDMI nor microSD card slot.

The battery life is superb. With it’s 4,325mAh battery that Google claims is good for 9 hours of video playback, 10 hours of web browsing, 10 hours of e-book reading and 300 hours on standby. In fact, I only charge it every 2 days with surfing, emailing and running the tunein app for online radio.

In conclusion, the Nexus 7 seems like a version 1 of a product. I would expect a second version to feature LTE or at least 3G connectivity, microSD slot, HDMI port and a back lens. It will make it truly mobile device.

The Google Nexus 7 is now retailing for S$399. For those who wants something light, portable and the latest Andriod OS, the Google Nexus 7 must be on your consideration list.

  1. This is the best Android tablet you can buy at any price. When you factor in the low price, it’s probably the best tablet for the money you’ll find as well. If you can live in the cloud, and Google Play has enough of the content you’re looking for, go buy one. And if you have decided to become a proud owner of this device, perhaps you’re in the market for a solid and beautiful protection case as well.

  2. I am a user of google nexus 7 and I can say that I’m not so happy finding out several problems on its functionality. Sometimes cannot charge if the battery is totally uncharged. Microphone sometimes doesn’t work. After installing 4.2 android many times reboot without reason. These are some of the issues that I think is very important to asus or google to resolve.
