Photos taken with VIVO Y72 5G

According to our findings,

The front 16 MP at f/2.0 uses a Samsung s5k3p9 sensor.

The rear 64 MP at f/1.79, uses a Omnivision Ov64b40 sensor.

The rear 8 MP at f/2.2 should be a Omnivision ov8856

and the and a 2 MP at f/2.4 should be a Omnivision ovbb10pd

In general, photos taken using the AI mode tends to be over saturated. That is very apparent in food photos. Sunset photos tends to be more reddish but is generally acceptable.

The picture quality is pretty good for a low mid ranger.

Evening or night shots are taken using night mode.

Video shot

As there is no OIS on the smartphone, stabilisation of video is highly dependent on EIS or software based stabilisation. Panning of video is ok using bare hands but if you were to walk or mount the phone on a bicycle, the video taken is very shaky. The max resolution available is 1080p.

Speedtest Results

Although TPG is selling this phone as part of their 5G bundle, we are unable to connect to their 5G NSA network at 3 different locations – Vivocity, PLQ Mall and Marina Bay Sands.

As the phone supports intraband CA, it managed to boost the download speed of up to 112 Mbps our TPG SIM card. If you are using Circles.Life with 5G VAS enabled, the phone is able to detect the M1 5G NSA network.

Conclusion

The VIVO y72 5G is our second 5G phone we reviewed that is based on the Mediatek Dimensity 700 processor. As we can see from the benchmarks, the performance of this device is on par with a Snapdragon 732G. It may not be the fastest processor but at the price point of $300-$400 range, this phone has the responsivenes and smoothness even in games. Most importantly, it doesn’t seem to heat up that easily compared to the Snapdragon processors. It is usually just over 40 deg C even under heavy game load.

The VIVO y72 5G has a nice reflective back plate which I like a lot. The screen is well aligned and there are no rough edges on the sides of the screen.

The 64 MP shooter was surprisingly good at night shots. It suffers from noise if you digitally zoom it. The lack of OIS also resulted in shaky videos but it seems to affect night videos more than day time recorded videos. A gimbal may help.

If you feel that your speakers are not loud enough, the Super Linear Speaker feature boosts the volume and you can enhance the sound effects for more a more dramatic effect while watching movies on your phone.

Game play is enhanced with Ultra Game Mode that give you a fuller sensory gaming experience.

According to the specs, it is written that the phone will support 5G SA. (*SA capabilities depend on the network layout of local carrier. and it will be pushed through OTA upgrade after its official opening). Thus, it is too early to tell since telcos may not provision it.

In Conclusion, the Y72 5G is worth considering if you are looking for a new phone that supports dual 5G at a good price point.
