Conclusion

The VIVO y72 5G is our second 5G phone we reviewed that is based on the Mediatek Dimensity 700 processor. As we can see from the benchmarks, the performance of this device is on par with a Snapdragon 732G. It may not be the fastest processor but at the price point of $300-$400 range, this phone has the responsivenes and smoothness even in games. Most importantly, it doesn’t seem to heat up that easily compared to the Snapdragon processors. It is usually just over 40 deg C even under heavy game load.

The VIVO y72 5G has a nice reflective back plate which I like a lot. The screen is well aligned and there are no rough edges on the sides of the screen.

The 64 MP shooter was surprisingly good at night shots. It suffers from noise if you digitally zoom it. The lack of OIS also resulted in shaky videos but it seems to affect night videos more than day time recorded videos. A gimbal may help.

If you feel that your speakers are not loud enough, the Super Linear Speaker feature boosts the volume and you can enhance the sound effects for more a more dramatic effect while watching movies on your phone.

Game play is enhanced with Ultra Game Mode that give you a fuller sensory gaming experience.

According to the specs, it is written that the phone will support 5G SA. (*SA capabilities depend on the network layout of local carrier. and it will be pushed through OTA upgrade after its official opening). Thus, it is too early to tell since telcos may not provision it.

In Conclusion, the Y72 5G is worth considering if you are looking for a new phone that supports dual 5G at a good price point.
