Singapore to start trial on Heterogeneous Network for seamless speed surfing of up to 1Gbps in 2015

Singapore will be among the first countries to adopt HetNet after Holland. Holland rolled out HetNet after 2012’s major disruption of network as HetNet provides a backup for wireless internet or telephony even when one of the service provider’s network is down.

Details of the consultation were released yesterday by Singapore Ministry of Communications and Information website but details are still sketchy at this moment. There were no details of which MRT train stations will be involved in the trial.

Whether it will be implemented will depend on the trial as there are issues like costs and responsibilities of network owners as there are to build a larger network for users roaming onto their networks.

Will the HetNet be a success ? Will consumers be willing to pay more for such redundancy ?
