Recently, STOMP reported a case where a user was charged S$3 per minute for incoming roaming calls in Cambodia, even without answering. This isn’t the first time such incidents have occurred. ZYM, an MVNO under Singtel, explicitly advises users in its FAQ that they will be charged and advise them to use WhatsApp, Line or WeChat.

Some users suggest that whenever you receive such calls, do not hang up but to let the call stop ringing instead. Some have also suggested turning off voicemail to avoid such charges.

With SIMBA, you can enjoy free calls to Singapore in 150 countries via VoLTE (if supported by the local telco) or the SIMBA Voice app (iPhone). No more worries about answering emergency calls from Singapore. Plus, with included IDD minutes, you can call local numbers directly from the dial pad or SIMBA Voice app using the IDD code. (IDD minutes will be deducted from your bundle or wallet, whichever applies first.)
