Singtel gomo SIM Only review
OCWorkbench 26/3/2019

[Update] Effective from 7/6/2019, gomo added Roaming Data Pump. Add 1 GB of data for $10 and enjoy roaming data access across Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand for 10 days. No voice roaming service is available on gomo.

Yesterday, Singtel launched a SIM Only plan under the sub brand gomo.

gomo offers one of the best deals for post paid. Pay $20 and you get 20GB, 200SMS, 200 minutes of calls. The best part of the deal is that Caller ID and incoming calls are free.

If data is not enough, just add a Data Pump that comes with 10GB data, 100 mins talktime and 100 SMS on the GOMO app. $10 will be automatically charged to your credit/debit card on file. Data pump will last you 30 days.

Post paid numbers can be ported in to GOMO. This can be done within 3 days for non Singtel transfer in. Existing Singtel numbers will get ported within 1 hour.

The bad is that gomo plans do not come with any roaming add on. Basically this is a use in Singapore SIM card. Instead, they have a prepaid card that now comes free when you subscribe to their postpaid plan

The gomo postpaid SIM only plan is confirmed to have no VoLTE service. Thus, you will be dropped to 3G when making voice calls just like Zero1.

Zero1, which runs under the Singtel network also offer a similar package at S$29.90, (but it does provide voice roaming). gomo on the other hand has an app which you could manage your account.

If you prefer Singtel network, gomo seems like a better deal.

[nextpage title=”gomo app and Speedtest”]gomo comes with an app which you can monitor your usage and top up if you exceed 20 GB of data. You can top up anytime with credit/debit card.

Here is how it looks :

Network Cell Info and Speedtest

Oliver tested the SIM on the Redmi Note 7. This smartphone supports Dual SIM in LTE. As we can see, there is no  VoLTE suppot for the gomo sim card (TPG has a HD tag).

Signal strength at Chai Chee isn’t that fantastic but still within acceptable range of -100dbM.

In fact, the gomo is registered itself as Singtel and not gomo. It is able to detect LTE+ which means carrier aggregation is working

Speedtest result were a bit disappointing, delivering only 26 Mbps for downlink and 5.31 Mbps for uplink. Could this be due to location. We will continue to do further tests with this SIM.
