The boards comes in various form factors and support of SLI and CrossFire. There are also 2 boards which supports DDR3 only.

The Z170 chipset is the centre of this new series of motherboards. The Ultra Durable motheroards support the new processors (14nm). Together with technology available from the chipset, it makes the Z170 series a better performer in terms of connectivity with external peripherals.

With the Z170, you no longer require an external chip to support USB 3.1. The Intel USB 3.1 utilises 4 PCIe Gen 3 lanes x 4 offering 32GB/s of bandwidth for speeds of up to 10Gb/s over USB 3.1 for 2 USB 3.1 ports. The speed is double that of previous generation and support USB Type C and USB Standard A for compatibility. On previous Z97 series motherboards, USB 3.1 controllers are extenally connected via PCIe Gen 2 x 2 for 2 USB 3.1 ports.

Another improvement in speed is the Dual PCIe Gen 3 x4 M.2 . for SSD devices in RAID mode. Gigabyte boards also support the latest NVMe SSD supporting the Intel SSD 750 series over PCIe 3.0 via M.2 to U.2 Add on card. The onboard SATA Express also delivers using PCIe Gen3 x2 for up to 16 Gb/s faster than conventional SATA 3 which only has a limit of 6Gbps.

There is also Turbo B-Clock tuning IC for linear adjustment from 90MHz to 200MHz. Gigabyte applications like EasyTune and Cloud Station also makes it easier to control the system . On top of that there is App Centre which gives you access to more information about your system.
