Camera/Video modes and Text entry on the Motorola Milestone (Android™ 2.1)
Bluetooth 30 Mar 2010

In this video, we take a look at 2 ways to entering text on the Motorola Milestone. The first is to use the on board virtual keyboard. It can be used in landscape or portrait mode. We personally prefer the landscape mode as we have bigger buttons to type on.

Alternatively, you can use the slide out keyboard to key in the text. Although it is handy, typing via the virtual keyboard is faster than using the physical keyboard. The keyboard also seem to have moved too much to the left as Motorola adds in a cursor pad on the right which takes up too much space.

For the more adventurous user, you might want to download ShapeWriter, a virtual keyboard utility similar to Swype. You can now enter text by swiping your finger across the screen keyboard. If you need to enter Chinese text, you would also need to go to Android Marketplace and download the software Chiense IME by Google. This allows you to enter Chinese simplified text in pinyin.

Next we take a look at the 5 mega pixel camera. The built in camera comes with flash allowing you to take pictures in a pitch dark room. You can choose various scene options like macro, sunset, auto, steady, portrait, landscape, Sport, Night landscape etc. As for effects, there are normal, negative, black & white, solarize, Sepia. You can set flash to On, Off or Auto mode. Picture resolution can be set up to 5 megapixelVideo can be in D1 or QVGA mode.

Here are some sample pictures taken using the Motorola Milestone.
