Gigabyte introduces Ultra Durable 4 boards with Glass Fabric PCB technology that repels moisture caused by humid and damp conditions

Taipei, Taiwan, August 30, 2011 – GIGABYTE TECHNOLGY Co. Ltd., a leading manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards, today launched its latest Ultra Durable™ 4 Classic motherboard technology. Debuting on the Intel® H61 Express Chipset, GIGABYTE Ultra Durable™ 4 Classic is a range of exciting technologies that safe-guard PCs from common everyday threats, including humidity and moisture, electro-static discharge, sudden power loss and high operating temperatures.

“GIGABYTE Ultra Durable™ 4 Classic builds on the success of previous GIGABYTE Ultra Durable™ brands, adding new protective technologies that are crucial to DIY PC builders everywhere,” commented Henry Kao, Vice President of GIGABYTE Motherboard Business Unit. “The Ultra Durable 4 Classic logo makes a pledge that our customers will respect and appreciate: lasting stability and peace of mind.”

GIGABYTE Ultra Durable™ 4 Classic
GIGABYTE Ultra Durable™ 4 Classic motherboards embrace a range of exclusive technologies that guarantee our customers the absolute best protection for their PC, with built-in features that prevent common malfunction threats users encounter on a day-to-day basis.

Humidity Protection
There is nothing more harmful to the longevity of your PC than moisture, and most parts of the world experience moisture in the air as humidity at some point during the year. GIGABYTE Ultra Durable™ 4 Classic motherboards have been designed to make sure that humidity is never an issue, incorporating a new Glass Fabric PCB technology that repels moisture caused by humid and damp conditions. Using a new kind of PCB material which reduces the amount of space between the fiber weave, Glass Fiber PCB technology makes it more difficult for moisture to penetrate compared to traditional motherboard PCBs. This offers much better protection from short circuit and system malfunction caused by humid and damp conditions.

Electrostatic Protection
All GIGABYTE Ultra Durable™ 4 Classic motherboards use high quality IC microchips that are rated with higher electro-static discharge (ESD) resistance than traditional IC implementations. GIGABYTE Ultra Durable™ 4 Classic motherboards use ICs with up to 3 times the ESD resistance levels compared to traditional ICs. This helps to better protect the motherboard, its components and the PC in general against potential damage caused by static electricity, a common threat to today’s PCs.

Power Failure Protection
If your home experiences a sudden power outage for any reason, GIGABYTE Ultra Durable™ 4 Classic motherboards are equipped to ensure that you won’t be dealing with a fatal malfunction. All GIGABYTE Ultra Durable™ 4 Classic motherboards use patented DualBIOS™ technology to provide fail safe protection for the BIOS on your motherboard, automatically refreshing your BIOS from a back up version in the case of a critical power outage. GIGABYTE Ultra Durable™ 4 Classic motherboards also feature special anti-surge ICs that protect your motherboard, and your PC, from any surge in power delivery that may occur, helping to ensure that your PC is equipped to deal with any kind of irregular and inconsistent power delivery.

High Temperature Protection
GIGABYTE Ultra Durable™ 4 Classic motherboards feature specially selected components that make your PC capable of higher temperatures in more extreme conditions, while at the same time preventing your PC from overheating. Using all solid capacitors for the GIGABYTE Ultra Durable™ 4 Classic range both reduces overall board temperatures while, making the motherboard more robust at higher temperatures. The choice of Lower RDS(on) MOSFETs also helps to reduce operating temperatures significantly compared to traditional MOSFET solutions. These component technologies combine to guarantee enhanced longevity and stability for your PC.

GIGABYTE H61 Platforms
GIGABYTE Ultra Durable™ 4 motherboards are currently available for GIGABYTE H61 platform motherboards. The Intel® H61 Express Chipset supports 2nd generation ‘Sandy Bridge’ Intel® Core™ CPUs, and deliver Intel’s industry-leading performance and advanced integrated graphics capabilities. Motherboards based on the Intel® H61 Express Chipset also offer a comprehensive range of unique GIGABYTE features that give mainstream PC users the most compelling platform on the market today.

Posted on 25 August 2011 by

Singapore, August 24, 2011 – Nokia today announced the launch of three feature-packed, mass market smartphones, bringing the latest smartphone functionality at attractive price points and including market-leading innovation with Symbian Belle. The Nokia 700, Nokia 701 and Nokia 600 extend the range of available designs, features and functionality in the Nokia Symbian smartphone range. Symbian Belle powers all three, with single-tap NFC technology sharing and pairing, the most personal user interface so far and a more powerful mobile Web browsing experience. As well as allowing content to be shared between devices, NFC capabilities allow any of the three new smartphones to pair with NFC-enabled mobile accessories such as speakers or Bluetooth headphones and headsets. To extend the range of available NFC-enabled accessories, Nokia is also announcing the launch of the Nokia Essence Bluetooth Stereo Headset, which can be paired with any NFC-enabled smartphone simply by tapping the two devices together.

While all three smartphones contain recognizable Nokia features, they each represent a very distinct set of priorities to allow users to choose what matters most in a smartphone. The most compact touch screen monoblock smartphone in the world (Nokia 700); a sleek and stylish smartphone with the world’s brightest mobile display for indoor or outdoor use (Nokia 701), and Nokia’s loudest entertainment smartphone (Nokia 600) all bring firsts to the Nokia product portfolio.

“After bringing exciting new features to the Symbian user experience only two months ago with Symbian Anna, we are now driving the platform even further with our most competitive Symbian user experience ever,” said Ilari Nurmi, Vice President at Nokia. “Symbian Belle and the three new handsets we are launching today show our commitment to continue delivering Symbian products that allow people to choose what is most important to them in terms of user experience, design, functionality and price. These will not be last products or updates we will deliver on Symbian.”

“install on htc trophy is finished:

at first i see on the bootscreen there is no mark anymore like “Not for resale” an Version is…. tada…. 7.10.7720.68

i am very happy now, good night”

Others have since reported success as well, regardless of device, carrier or network i.e. which tells us that the files might just be the developer release, meaning device neutral. Instructions, translated from German, can be found here. You can download the files at your risk from here or here. Original thread at XDA starts here, which we strongly encourage you to read first! Remember, using this is at your own risk! The site do not endorse this method at all and take no responsibility when any issues occurred due to the flash. Having said that, enjoy.

AMD takes market share in IDC report

Posted on 10 August 2011 by

Research firm IDC, recently released its Q2 data on the microprocessor market.  According to the latest report, AMD seems to have improved over Q1 2011 and gained some share.

IDC’s report mentions that AMD’s share in total PC microprocessor market increased by 1.5% in Q2 2011 compared to previous quarter. However if we dig deeper it seems that the company gained share in notebooks and desktops but continued to perform poorly in servers where its share further declined to 5.5%. Although AMD is expected to launch its bulldozer CPU in later half of this year, we have reduced our market share expectations for the full year 2011 from slight gains to slight losses.

However, the notebook market share gain was a positive surprise and consequently we have adjusted our expectation in the category slightly upwards.

Price estimate for AMD stands at $9.90 , implying a significant premium to the market price.

ASRock A75 Extreme6 running DDR3-2133+ with Kingston Genesis modules

Posted on 09 August 2011 by

If you have always been looking for a cheaper alternative to maximise your memory bandwidth on the A75 platform, the Kingston Genesis HyperX is the ready solution. It is able to run at it’s rated speed and beyond. On other A75 solutions, most DDR3-2133 + modules might not work very well at this speed. This is largely due to BIOS issues that remains to be ironed out.

Below is a CPUID screen shot running the modules KHX2133C9AD3X2K2-4GX with an overclocked A8-3850 processor.

AMD releases Radeon brand memory modules

Posted on 09 August 2011 by

Fabless chip designer AMD has decided to expand its Radeon brand to include DDR3 memory modules

It looks the same as a normal DDR3 Memory module only there is a big Radeon badge on it.

According to AMD’s website, three 2GB long DIMMs are being released as part of a new Radeon memory line. Each memory is a 240-pin socket type dual in line memory module designed to hit a different niche.

The ‘Entertainment’ memory runs at 1333MHz (9-9-9 latency), then there is the ‘Ultra Pro Gaming’ DIMM working at 1600MHz (11-11-11) and last we have the ‘Enterprise’ memory which doesn’t have finalised specs but will probably run for five years boldly going where no one has gone before before being mothballed for a couple of decades.

The DDR3-1333 module has been spotted in the Land of the Rising Sun and will set you back $20. It is not clear why AMD is making this move. After all the memory market is not doing that well and competition is tough.

We would not have thought that the sorts of people who buy AMD chips are the types who want an “only AMD” machine.
