There were lots of speculations about the specifications of the Altek Leo 14 megapixel camera phone. Today, our team managed to get a glimpse of this phone and find out more about the details.

As the first 14 megapixel camera phone to enter the market, the Altek Leo smartphone comes with Google Android 2.1 installed. Being a Google phone, there are tons of applications which can be downloaded and installed. On top of that, you can access the Google services like GMail, Maps etc just like any Google phone. Currently, the phone is powered by Eclair. It will be upgrade to Froyo but no data is given.

Although it is a phone, the emphasis is more on it’s camera feature. The camera uses a nimage sensor is a 1/2.3-inch CCD, a common version found in standalone point-and-shoots. This ensures better quality pictures with less noise. The optics is a 3X optical with 36mm widest. It has a xenon Flash and the software has the usual smile detection, panorama, environment scenes etc. There are also various controls for zoom and a shutter just like a camera.

The phone wil begin selling in Greater China region in Q4 this year at a retail price of USD 499. Hopefully it will reach our shores at the same time.
