Jan. 6, 2010 – The world of touch-based experiences on the notebook just got better with the launch of HP’s latest convertible, touch-enabled notebook PC – the HP TouchSmart tm2.

“We broke new ground when we first launched the industry’s first convertible notebook PC with multitouch technology in the tx2,” said Chua Hwee Koon, vice president, Mobile Business Unit, Personal Systems Group, HP Asia Pacific and Japan. “Today, we continue to demonstrate our rich history and leadership in touch-based computing experiences with the powerful and versatile new tm2.”

The  world’s only consumer convertible tablet notebook

The new HP TouchSmart tm2 updates the HP TouchSmart tx2 – the industry’s first convertible notebook PC with multitouch technology designed specifically for consumers.

Encased in a sophisticated aluminum chassis with “Riptide” engraved illustration, the convertible tm2 has a starting weight of 2.18 kilos(1) and a 12.1-inch touch-screen and digital pen that support multitouch gestures.

As a traditional notebook, the tm2 offers a keyboard and touch-enabled display for input. When converted to a slate, the tm2 morphs into a sketchpad with digital pen, allowing artists to sketch on the go and students to take notes in class with its natural handwriting experience.

With the latest low-voltage Intel® Core™ 2 Duo(2) processors and optional high multimedia performance ATI Mobility Radeon™ discrete graphics upgrades, the tm2 also provides up to nine hours of battery life(3) via the standard six-cell battery. It also includes a fingerprint reader as well as an advanced thermal design that helps keep the PC cool.

Introducing a new world of tactile fun

HP TouchSmart tm2’s ground-breaking display technology responds to the softest touch of a finger, and supports multitouch gestures such as zoom, scroll and rotate by allowing more than one finger to be accepted as input simultaneously.

This means consumers can interact with their favorite touch applications with a light touch of the finger, including:

—      DigiFish Dolphin, an interactive 3-D screensaver that recreates an ocean environment to be experienced via touch or a mouse.

—      Corel® Paint it! Touch™, which allows users to draw and paint or turn photos into paintings using fingertips.

The tm2 also features many of the same exclusive built-for-touch applications found on the recently introduced tx2 and HP TouchSmart PC, including the Tug of Words and Photo Hunt touch-enabled games for creating digital art(4).

As part of HP’s commitment to the environment and to eliminating all uses of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in its computing products by 2011(5), the TouchSmart tm2 is BFR/PVC-free.

HP has also teamed up with Universal Music Group (UMG), the world’s leading music company, to make it easier for HP customers in 18 countries across Asia(6) to discover, acquire and enjoy 1,120 of favorite tunes on their Intel®-powered HP notebook PC.

Popular hit songs from UMG’s top international acts will be available on the dedicated portal, www.music4myhp.com, as a part of this first music-service collaboration between Universal Music and HP for the Asia region.

Accessories, pricing and availability(7)

—      The HP TouchSmart tm2 is expected to be available in Asia Pacific from 17 Jan. with a starting price of US$949.99.

—      The HP USB Media Dock combines the capabilities of a docking station, port replicator and adjustable notebook stand. It reduces desktop clutter while providing versatile docking and high-quality audio and video features. Priced at US$179, the Media Dock offers USB connectivity, making it compatible with any notebook
