Netflix added a selection of 4K HD videos to it’s catalog and is preparing for a launc of Ultra HD video content next year. So far the test titles are footage for internal tests, said the spokesman of Netflix.

It looks like Netflix added a total of 7 videos to its catalog and they include El Fuente: 24 MP, and its description promises “an example of 4K at 24 frames per second.” with scenes of natural landscape and people.

CEO Reed Hastings said during the company’s most recent earnings call that Netflix wants to be “one of the big suppliers of 4k next year.” It’s expected that Netflix will kick off 4K, or Ultra HD, as some prefer to call it, with its own original content, but it might also get some movies and TV show content from its licensing partners in ultra high-definition.

So far, 4K TV hasn’t taken off just as yet. In fact, we were invited to Toshiba and LG 4K HD launches in Singapore. Most writers and analyst feels that the timing isn’t right as we only have one free to air broadcast in HD and a dozen or more HD pay TV channels. 4K HD might take time to evole. Telecom operators might spearhead if they deliver the contents over the National Fibre Broadband network which scales 100Mbps to 1Gbits easily.

So, will you subscribe to 4K broadcasts when 4K TV are more affordable? Discuss.
