Most people don’t wear watches these days. Even if they do, some would still go for the branded expensive models. These changed when wearable technology took off a few years back.

Integrating the popular functionalities of Smart or fitness bands with a larger screen, Mi Watch Lite can be considered an upscaled version of such devices.

The Mi Watch Lite comes with a 1.4 inch 320×320 TFT screen at 350 nits which is viewable under bright sunlight. Although it looks larger than the normal bands, it only weighs 35g.

Mi Watch Lite has built in GPS/GLONASS and has 5 ATM water resistance. It also has a barometer(altimeter)for the fitness enthusiasts. For the non sporty or elders, this Mi Watch Lite is a perfect companion for health monitoring e.g. heart rate and sleeping habits.

To get the Mi Watch Lite up and running, you will need to download the Xiaomi Wear app through the QR code presented to you when you first power up the watch. Turn on Bluetooth and it wlil pair it up.

You will need to register an account with Xiaomi. After which, you can start customising your Watch Face from the App or from the Mi Watch Lite.

While it is easy to access some of the workout information on the small screen swiping it left or right, i would find it easier to check them on my handset. With the Mi Wear app, you can view the status of your workout, profile, changing of watch face etc. They are easier to read under three pages – Status, Workout and Profile.

If battery runs out,you can charge the Mi Watch Lite by plugging the dock with a smartphone charger with USB port. During the charging, it will show the battery indicator and the date / time.

[nextpage title=”Conclusion”]

After using the Mi Watch Lite for a few days, I find that most of the functionalities are there. Perhaps what i didn’t like is the squarish design of the watch which gives it a plastic toyish feel.

We did a accuracy check of the GPS. So far, it didn’t go off course. As for sleep monitoring, it seems to track that I was asleep when I am still awake at 12 midnight and i woke up slighly too early even though i slept till 8 am.

Although Mi Watch Lite has some exciting features, SpO2 measurement is missing. Sometimes, the screen is not too responsive to touch. The UI needs some work as it is quite confusing whether one should swipe left or right to exit to previous menu.

Compared to the Redmi Watch which has both an AI Assistant and NFC. The Mi Watch Lite doesn’t have a built-in assistant which is why there is no microphone. It also does not have NFC, so there is no support for contactless payment.

In general, the Mi Watch Lite is a nice alternative to the smart bands. If you are looking at an entry level watch that doesn’t break your piggy bank, the Mi Watch Lite is priced at SGD 89 and is now available at the official Xiaomi stores on Lazada and Shopee, as well as at all Authorized Mi Stores in Singapore.
