MSI Taiwan and Corbell Singapore showcase latest Z87 series motherboards in Singapore
29 Jun 2013

Despite the bad air quality hitting PSI of 400 in the mid afternoon on Friday 21 Jun 2013, the crowd still stream in to the event held by Corbell and MSI. It was a casual event filled with laughter as we meet up old friends. The users came slightly late due to the haze and the rest started off having the buffet dinner before the event starts.

The MSI representative ran through the MSI company profile and show the audience the different flavours of the motherboards completely with a new design and they are the XPOWER, MPOWER MAX and MPOWER boards. The differences are the power phases 32, 20 and 16 for XPOWER, MPOWER MAX and MPOWER respectively. The XPOWER is the highest end board and supports 4 way CrossFire or 4 way SLI with 4 full length PCIe slots and another 1 PCIe full length slot (total of 5).

Something unique about the Z87 XPOWER is that it uses the PLX8747 gen3 switch chip. This way you have the maximum available bandwidth needed in order to run your benchmarks and game with 4 VGA cards. There is also a feature called  Ceasefire.

When you are overclocking with LN2 with 4 VGA cards it can happen that you want to remove one VGA card, however with the LN2 pot on their and all the insulation it is very difficult. With MSI CeaseFire it is very easy to disable one of the PCI-E x16 slots with a simple switch.

  1. The nice dark mat finish design looks great. Specifications sounds pretty good too, even the “Military Class” sounds like some warmongering maniac… But if the tests show that it is stable, robust platform, then why not? Looks pretty 🙂

However I never seen entierly black caps from any respectable brand, lol. Unless they painted them, I would be very suspicious about the Z87 XPOWER. The MPOWER MAX mobo is looking like to have a normal caps…
