Conclusion

The 55LB650T is an exciting TV with lots of possibilities. The interface is clean and easy to maneuver. For DVB-T2 reception, it is more stable than the Draco box that we had reviewed some time ago. Although both supports recording of TV programs, the recorded programs are non transferrable unlike the external draco receiver.

Although LG simplified the remote control with fewer buttons, certain functions like switching of dual sound can be quite a chore as it is hidden deep in the settings->Quick->Audio Language. The remote control application for Android is also a bit limited in functionalities.

During our short week with the set, we tried to install Google Chrome browser from chrome.com. It didn’t install as LG disallowed self-installation of apps and only apps from their LG Store can be downloaded to the TV. So far, the apps numbers are limited but are definitely expanding. If you are a fan of local dramas or variety, toggle.sg is already preinstalled. Youtube is also preinstalled but the version doesn’t allow you to view LIVE events. For those who love American dramas, you would need to set up a third party provider for VPN or DNS to watch those with the respective app (region dependent).

In Conclusion, the 55LB650T has opened up the opportunities for app developers to leverage on this platform. The integration of TV and Internet is definitely here to stay with TV viewers interacting and streaming videos just like they do on a PC.
